Oh should have mentioned that I'm not including the monitor in the budget, but am willing to spend up to €450 on it.

CPU and mobo aren't compatible. socket 1155 VS 1150. Also that is a very expensive mobo to begin with anyway. You could spend half of that unless you plan on going SLI in the future.

You don't really need 16GB of RAM unless you are definitely going to be video editing. Even though I'm not sure you'd even need it then.

Do you really need 5TB of storage space??

Have you tried putting this together on hardwareversand? Could be cheaper.
Edit: I would put a build together but I'm in work :o

Thanks, I'm a building virgin so mistakes will be copious! I was planning on going SLI in the future.

    Would 8GB be enough?

This is just being greedy but I have huge amounts of photos, music and videos accumulated over the years so it probably will be used....eventually :pac:

No, but I will and thanks for the quick reply and help.

To be honest, you're spending a LOT of money but not getting your money's worth, if you get what I'm saying. If I was spending €2000 I would be expecting a lot more out of it.

8GB of RAM is plenty for nearly everyone.

5TB is too much :p Get one drive now, and get another in the future if you need it.

Do you really need the 240GB SSD as well? SSD should mainly be used for your Windows boot drive, and possibly a couple of games. Not every game needs to be stored on it. Only the ones that will actually benefit from the added speed such as FPS. Most people tend to go for 120GB.

That's good to know all of that and it will save me a lot off the budget, is there anything I could or should be spending the saved funds on in terms of improving performance etc?

You don't need to spend that kind of money to get a great gaming pc. for example here is a build I knocked up for someone else for a lot lot less. You could of course make some upgrades to this but I wouldn't spend over €1500 for a 1080p machine.

If however you want to go for a 1440p build then you could spend 2k easy.

Not really - You picked out nice parts. Just went a little overboard is all.

This motherboard should be more than enough. Generally on mobos you're paying more for extra features that you wouldn't use. The Extreme4 is a solid board. You could probably even drop to the Extreme3 if you wanna save extra money. Not a huge difference between the two to be honest.

    Other than that
    -8GB RAM - 1600Mhz/1866Mhz - CAS9
-2TB is plenty of HDD space for nearly everyone. You have plenty of drive bays for future upgrades.
-Get a 120GB SSD and use it solely for your windows boot drive and don't store any media on it
-Are you sure you want to spend €647 on the 780? Don't get me wrong it's an amazing card. But it's expensive, and it means the upgrade to SLI will also be very expensive.
-Compare prices on Hardwareversand / Amazon / Scan

If you want to go all out crazy on a 1440p build then you could get something like this assuming AMD have sorted out crossfire with the latest drivers. You could probably save a bit getting some of the hwvs parts on Amazon. I didn't compare prices.

^ Great build but a lot of the prices can be reduced.

i5 3rd gen over an i7 4th gen.. 8GB RAM.. 7950's from Amazon/ocuk.. 120gb ssd.. Cheaper Korean Monitor.. Cheaper cooler..

Also, 750 watt PSU? Is that not the minimum recommended power from AMD?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 400 ✭✭Harvey Low Fat Milk

Thanks for the replies, have to go to work now but I'm going to really look through all of these later and rather annoyingly ask for more help but I really appreciate it. Learning a lot and saving a lot as well.

Of course I was just showing what he could get for his full budget.

I don't see the rig pushing much more than 550w max when highly overclocked. That's assuming 100% load on both gpu's and the cpu which will rarely happen. It will draw more from the wall of course as all psu's do.

Huh.. I could've saved myself a few euro so by getting a small PSU apparently :p Got an 850W for my build.. on the way to me now

Nice 1440p build there Bloobath, that's my next target with my build. 1440 monitor and another 7950 to pump out those pixels ...
Just wondering how would a single 7950 cope with the 1440p? Would you get playable fps?
I'm asking so if I need to get both at the same time or spread out my purchases

    Sorry to hijack op's thread

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,299 ✭✭✭✭BloodBath

You could probably save €400-500 on the 1440p build without losing much performance with some smart shopping.

Depends on the game and the settings. By all means a single card could handle 1440p but you would sacrifice MSAA (Not that you really need it) and turn settings down to Med and you should still have very goos frame rates.

Can't speak from experience yet as my Two 7950's haven't arrived yet, nor my 1440p monitor :p

Sorry I forgot to answer that. Someone here has a single 7950 and a 1440p monitor. Was it gumbi?

It would be fine for most game's I'd say. Expect around 50-60% of the fps you get at 1080p in the same game with the same settings though.

2 7950s will demolish 1440p, provided thre is minimal micro-stutter (if that even affects you - and if it does, hopefully AMD's end of month fix is actually a fix).

I reckon it won't affect me. I'm coming from a computer that I can't game with a single core processer and 2GB of RAM.

    I'll be grand :pac:

Thanks for the replies, I've been working a lot hence my own late reply as well as finally being able to afford a decent rig but I'm glad I asked for advice and feedback here because I'm pretty sure I've found my build. I think I may be going for Bloodbath's €2433 build, my brother said he's making me up with a similar budget in mind but that looks pretty perfect for my needs and budget.

Thanks again, I'll be sure to post pics of my setup in the picture thread when I finally get this thing together.
