Advice for one new to working out

    Hi all,

I've recently started to become more invested in getting fit and I'm looking for some advice regarding working out. I've been doing Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred which combines cardio with strength training and am now on Phase 2. I've lost about 2lbs along with a few inches. I've really cleaned up my diet too.
I'm 5' 8'' and weigh 161 lbs and want to get down to my previous weight of 140 lbs or there abouts.
I'd like to know how much exercise I should be doing daily to achieve the best results. The workout is 25 minutes or so and is intense enough. My main goal is toning up as much as I can.
Walking has been my main form of exercise in the past so I'm a bit green, but really want to get fit so am willing to put the work in.
Any advice would be much appreciated:)

Get yourself to a gym and get a proper strength training program.

Jillian's program isn't really a good strength training program and if you want to 'tone' you'll need to lift weights and have a pretty clean diet.

Post up what your currently eating.

    Thanks for the reply.
Ah! I thought that might be a good workout for someone starting out.
An example of my daily diet would be something like this:

    Breakfast:

Bowl of muesli with skimmed milk and some piece of fruit, i.e. banana
    or
Poached egg with a slice of toast
    or Weetabix with skimmed milk

    Lunch:

    Tuna or Chicken salad
    or
Salmon & brown bread or sandwich
    or
    Soup

    Dinner:

Chicken & Pasta Salad with lemon dressing
    or
    Chicken with oven roasted veg
    or
    Salmon, veg & potatoes

I don't usually drink minerals & drink about 2l water per day
Drink 2-6 cups of tea & coffee a day

I occasionally eat chocolate, crisps, etc. (about one day per week)

I know I still have quite a bit of work to do regards cleaning up my diet.
