    Hi

Looking for some help am useless at bike maintenance just after giving it a clean.

Popped the bike upside down cleaned the chain and gears with toothbrush and rag put some lubricant on it and wiped off excess.

Took the bike out again and gears are shifting down perfectly but when I shift up each time it shifts smoothly but two at a time.

Any ideas what I need to do to fix this doing Rok on sat.

    Cheers

I'm no expert either but I know that cable tension can affect how well the gears shift up and down - if the cable is too loose it will shift up slowly or not at all. I think if the cable is too tight then you can get double shifting up.

That's based on my tweaking my own gears' cable tension as it wasn't shifting up smoothly enough resulting in it double shifting up if I press the shifters hard and single shifting if I press more moderately. Which I quite like :)

The cable tension adjusters will be on the derailleurs - barrel adjusters probably - and some bikes will also have matching ones at the shifters. If you're going to adjust them, do 1/4 turn adjustments and see how it goes, it takes very small changes to adjust these.
