Well that's a mean thing to say...

I, for one, hope that he does. He's a genuinely nice guy and an excellent broadcaster.

4fm said at the time that Harvey was dropped because a number of changes were coming to the 4fm schedule over the coming weeks. None of these changes ever happened because the truth is 4fm dropped Harvey because they couldn't afford him. They should have cut the bull and told the truth.

Can you provide a source for this or is it just wild conjecture? I didn't see the station forecast "a number of changes" coming to their schedule in the coming weeks at any time. I recall them saying that Harvey was leaving to pursue other personal projects and that they were sorry to see him go.

I thought that they said that the show hadn't delivered the numbers ?

They could have easily got another presenter if the show was being a success.

I am sure that the fact that 2 hours of music is cheaper and a better fit to the format also came into the equation

Not that I know of. In fact, as far as I remember, the listener numbers were quite good for the show.

4FM PD,Andy Matthews, said on the day the show was dropped that 'constantly reviewing and sometimes replacing programmes is vital to our continued success'

And you made the jump from that fairly standard stock reply which actually said nothing at all about the show to "the show hadn't delivered numbers"? ...

If you read the full text of what the PD said its blatently obvious that the show wasn't delivering the numbers.

A bit on fair to the show as when music stations start talking, numbers drop off - but the BAI have allowed them to cut the talk % and thus end of talk at lunch on 4FM.

I didn't just read it - I wrote that article. It was me that spoke to the PD to get the quote, and he didn't mention listener figures for a very good reason - they were perfectly fine.. much better than the night-time talk show's figures, for example.

Harvey wasn't pushed due to low listenership, he left for personal reasons. It happens.

Being cold about it, the PD could have said that was the reason.

When a PD says in relation to the 'dropping of the show' - 'Part of the reason for this upward trend is our ability to listen to our audience and adapt and change our schedules on a regular basis',it is encouraging a conclusion that the show was dropped due to low figures.
Throw in the show was completely cancelled as opposed to finding a replacement presenter and its clear that 4FM did not exactly communicate this change very well.

Agree with this. I think the fact the show was pulled from the air altogether says a lot and out of the blue too by all accounts although there did seem to be contract renewals going on at 4fm at the time. If it was show with decent listener numbers well them why didn't they replace him.

If say Matt Cooper left Today fm for personal reasons, Would he be replaced by an extra hour of Tony Fenton and Colm O'Sullivan ? No !

Righto, I only used to work there and know and worked with everyone involved and know the facts, but you're all the experts clearly... you decide for yourselves!

Not being smart but I wouldn't believe a word from anyone that either works or has worked on either of the 4FM talk shows.

You're right. That's not being very smart at all.

Answering phones and organizing trolls wasn't either.

It looks like the show is returning on Monday (26th August). I heard an advert for it on 4fm (of course), and it was confirmed on their Facebook page in reply to a listener's query about David Harvey's return.

This is correct - I heard a promo during Late Nite with Niall Boylan Show which mentioned "The David Harvey Show" returns to Classic Hits 4FM as from 1:00pm on this Monday 26th of August, as far as I recall. It was always a great alternative to LiveLine especially if the topic on Joe's show was tedious from time to time. Welcome back David Harvey & Crew to 4FM!! The following week (i.e.) Monday 2nd of September you will have Pat Kenny commencing his broadcasting career from 10:00am-12:30pm on NewsTalk 106-108 FM whilst Seán O'Rourke takes over his old slot 10:00am-12Noon slot on RTÉ Radio One.

Working time Directive?:D I heard a promo for Gareth Sunday Morning show and then add in his weekly air time and he has 22 hours. Way too much airtime even if you like him.

Was flicking through the stations today and heard him:eek:. "Run for the hills"!!!;)

No doubt the bigots are delighted and will be queuing up to spew their hatred on the air again....

Looks a bit silly. Getting rid of a programme and bringing it back such a short time later.

I'd pick Harvey over Joe Duffy any day of the week.
