Canon 60D 18-55mm or 17-85mm

I'm going to place an order for a Canon 60D. I have two options with either a 18-55mm lens or a 17-85mm lens.

My question: Is the 17-85mm lens worth an extra ~€190 or should I go with the 18-55mm and invest the other money into a nifty fifty prime lens?

Personally, I would get the cheaper lens, then sell it and pick up a used Tamron 17-50.

You will end up having a better setup for less money.

do you have the option of buying body only and pick up another lens, rather than trying to sell cheaper lens. I used sigma 18-50 2.8 quite a bit.
