    hi,

    currently i am thinking to join a golf club because i have played golf for a while now and like to play open competitions (it seems only members will be allowed). i guess if i join a club i will play the majority rounds in this club.

    so, my question is.

    does it improve golf skills more to play different courses?
    or it doesn't really matter.

    pls let me know what you think.

    My opinion.

    I don't think playing just different courses all the time improves your game.
    In alot of cases I may actually play quite well on a course I haven't played before, but my score may not reflect that. When you don't know the lay of the land, speed of greens, bounces, etc etc ... it's tough to score well.

    Playing the same course regularly you know in time what your strenghts and weaknesses are and it's easier to identify what you need to work on, and how well you're improving. Take that into account I believe you would play better on a random course after practicing on your home turf course regularly.

    My two cents.

    good points!

    so, really the only disadvantage of playing same course is that i wont quickly get used to the new course. but technical skill wise there will be no different.

    so, any tips for quickly getting used to a new course?:D

    If I'm playing a new course, I

    * Have a look at their website.
    * Check scorecards, course layout
    * Check youtube/google for any videos
    * Check forums such as boards.ie !
    * Create a thread asking if people on here have played the specific course
    ---- more often than not, people here would have played the course, and can advise on (don't hit it left on 13, or stay above the hole on 15th green) .. things like that.

    I'd also make sure I have 15 minutes on the putting green before hand. That (sometimes), should give you an idea of the speed of the greens.

    * Create a thread asking if people on here have played the specific course.

    I would advise searching to see if there is already a thread for that particular course already rather than flooding the place with new threads.

    What I have started to do myself recently or when playing my home course are I walking past a green that I haven't plate yet exam where the pin is and exam where the best miss would be etc..

    This is key for me!

    we should suggest to create a thread for different golf course info. (lay, shape.......) so when people want to find out something just go there!:D

    agree?:)

    I think what Kiers is saying is to search the forum first before creating a new thread as a review of the course may already have been done.
    If not, then create away and I'm sure someone would have played it.

    We already have a Course Guides thread here

    Please check the Super Sticky thread at the top of the forum, most common threads of this type have already been created before and its better for everyone to keep them together.

    i might confused you.
    what i meant is to create a thread especially to provide information of different golf course that people need.
    so when people go to a new course just need to flick through this thread find his course for info.
    and this thread will be updated with new info from all people and last for ever.:D:D
