Hi folks. I'm a 1st time buyer looking to buy a motorhome. Has anyone had any experience buying from Carroll & McAuley Motorhomes in Ballyfermot?

I was over there the other day looking at a 2006 COMPASS AVANT GARDE (6 Berth) Rear U Lounge PEUGEOT BOXER TDI http://www.cmca.ie/select-a-motorhome/coachbuilt-motorhomes/ It's the third one down.

Anyone have any experience with one of these?

As regards layout I can't make up my mind between a 6 berth with a U lounge or a 5 berth layout with 4 seated at kitchen table and a bench opposite. Anyone have any recommendations? Mostly there will only be 2 people in it, and the odd time up to 4/5 max. Thanks, hernie.

If its mainly going to be 2 of you then I'd look for a low profile van with fixed bed, turning seating into a bed is annoying at best and gets very tiresome after a long drive / a few drinks / late at night. The extra diesel you'll spend lugging around a 6 berth coachbuilt will probably pay for a nama hotel for the extra guests if ever needed and you'll be glad of a smaller van on the tiny roads around the west of ireland.

Thanks paddyp. Think I'll include low profile vans in my search as well.

What paddyp said! Much too big for 2 people.

That one you linked was at Anchor Point Motorhomes in Tipperary at one point - always worth looking out for stickers from previous garages for checking on a van's history.

We find for people in your circumstances , that even if they buy one with an overhead bed , they invariably trade in for a lo-profile in a short space of time . TBH , lo-pros are the best seller we have , the last 3 years . And sales this year have been better than last year!
The lack of a permanently made up lower bed and the long rear overhang would put a lot of 1st timers off of that one IMHO.

Yeah I prefer the low profiles as well. They're sleeker, more aerodynamic and look easier to drive. But the overhead ones tend to be cheaper & there's more of them. I'll have to see what the budget allows. Thanks
