Does anyone have experience of water which is high in sulphur, bad smell (rotten eggs) but when left exposed to the elements the smell reduces. It is from a shallow well and was wondering if it would be any harm for cattle to drink. The water is clear.
    Thanks.

    Yes,

We have it in a well at an old house on our farm. It's called a spa well. It's supposed to have healing qualities for humans. Our cattle drank from it for years with no problem. It does contain a lot of limescale though.

    Hi
    I have a sulphur well.
The smell is bad but the cattle have been drinking from it for 16 years now.
It is actually supposed to be good for cattle it seems years ago before Ivermectins etc
Sulphur water was used to treat cattle.
Dont know how true that is if I am telling lies I was told lies

    yep
drilled a well at home couple of years ago, had to go deep to get water but when they hit it they seem to hit an awfal vein, its flows continually over the top of the well (400ft deep) all winter and during rainy weather..
anyway very strong smell of sulphur, got in a filter yoke that looks like a tall gas bottle, dont ask me how it works but it more or less takes it out, this is for house supply, the cattle get it as it is and doesnt seem to have any effect onthem

Sulphur was a traditional remedy for clensing the internal system. It however did lead to flatulance so do not stand behind cattle. The next time you have a herd test or have to call vet ask him.
