Having problem with the 4wd on my fiat 110-90 i push down the handle on left of drivers seat, it engages too easy and tractor does not go into 4wd.

Took off the guard underneath and all looks ok, both rods have a small bit of play, i think this is normal.

I can grab the lever that the handle in the tractor engages and put into 4wd and take it out from underneath.

Any ideas what could be wrong, does not seem a simple problem

Is the lever still connected to the switch under the tractor on the side of the transmission? Know ours popped off on a smaller fiat. But the lever was very lose after it, not as solid as it normally is.

Will take a look at ours tomorrow. Had a similar problem a few years ago, with the 4wd lever. The selector inside the transmission had sheared. had to drop the underneath fuel tank, removed the left wheel to make a bit more room. was easy to fix then, just unbolted a plate from the side. Done the handbrake pads when I was at it.
