    I just got decking done.

What is a good quality product to use for staining (not oiling) the decking (black in colour)

Do i leave the timber to weather for 6/12 months or slap on the paint now?

    Thanks
    K

If I had a new deck, I look into this one, before putting any finish on it. I've been using Ronseal Decking oil for the last 6 or 7 years, but it doesn't last, and works out expensive over the years.

I was considering using the Textrol this year, but sounded dodgy putting it on existing treated decking, as it needed stripping and neutralising before treatment (and they worked out more expensive than the Textrol oil). I'm trying a new oil this year - Liberon Decking Oil, impressed with it so far, but its only on a few weeks.

I just noticed you wanted black. I don't know would you get any decking stain in black?

I'd let the wood settle for a while. If you put anything on it now, it'll probably blow off in no time.

Black is very rare for a deck, as it attracts so much heat and shows up all footprints marks etc. Try the Sikkens range when you do go for it, quality products.

Ronseal do a black/ebony colour in their Decking Stain range. Stocked in woodies this year.
