Unfortunatly McDonalds, subway and those sell you crap food. Go to a place where you get real food that is obvious such as 10oz steak, contains 10oz of steak.

That's why he referenced knowing what you're eating.

If you don't eat in places that produce processed sh*te, it's a moot point.

Bay in Clontarf have a menu with guidelines on it.

Otherwise next time you cook a steak or chicken, weigh it and look at it. Then compare it to what you're eating to get an idea.

I dont eat mcdonalds but if it qas a choice between a mcd hamburger and eyeballing the macros in a steak sandwich id pick mcd. If you can do this with great accuracy fair play but I would definitely question how accurate you really are . Ever measured out 10g of oil ? Its not a lot .

If your really that concerned with macros then your meals are all gonna be pre planned and prepared, the notion of leaving a meal to chance while out and about wont occur to you.

Obsessing over macros is overkill imo, what if i use 8g of oil instead of 10..dear lord you havent hit your macros today and must be punished:rolleyes:

I hit my macros everyday without pre planning anything and accuracy is probably the reason why Im shredded and you are most likely not . If I decide to make an adjustment to my macros of 5g of fat and 10g of carbs I need to know if its had an effect or not . I cant do that running around eyeballing everything.

Sushi King have the calories on their take out menu and so do Yo Sushi. Wagamama give a decent breakdown on their site too but you have to go into each item individually to see it.

You could also manually enter the details for, say, a roll with fillings in My Fitness Pal and save it as a meal. Then just order that when you're out - it should be close enough to not send you off track.

I also keep things like a packet of oatcakes and some cheese or a protein bar with me when I'm out and about and it's enough to keep you going if you get stuck.

I think you need to have a better read around this forum and maybe the humour forum as well.

I also think you should show us what 'in good shape' is.

I didnt come here for advice on how to diet or how accurate to be I asked about places that give the nutrition info . Everyone can tell you how to do it but very few can do it. I dont mean to come across as snappy but there seemw to be a lot of advice flying around from people without a clue what they are talking about.

You have to be careful of places underestimating portion sizes, to appear low in cals.

    http://www.zaytoon.ie/nutrition.asp
We truly believe in the wholesome and quality nature of our food.
So we commissioned some friendly scientists to tell us the exact composition of every meal we serve.

If you look at the zaytoon list it has "per 100g" and "per unit" beside it. So you can workout they are claiming a chicken shish kebab is 120g and a lamb doner is 179grams & 495kcal.

For comparison Big macs are about 200-210g here and 490kcal.

If I got a 179g doner for €8 I would never go back. I remember getting my last one and it was so big on the plate I didn't know how to tackle it.

Abras list there doner as 642kcal.

I hear you thats why I created this thread to see if there was any places out there that I could expect a reasonable amount of accuracy and honesty from the nutrition info except subway and mcdonalds. Not many I guess. I believe in some parts of America its widespread.

I can accept what your saying its subjective I guess . bearing in mind I need to maintain health and sanity and although I am going to get a bit leaner, iv no reason to reach crazy low bf%

While I agree with the concept the problem is many places will either fudge the results in their favour or lie. Often figuring out the ingredients will be the only accurate way of judging the macros.

No I can't eyeball a donner kebab and tell you the macros, I can't with a mcD's either.

but I can eyeball a steak sandwhich cooked in a place with real ingredients,
6oz of steak 300 calories, minimal carbs, 12g of fat 50g of protein
ciabatta, 250 cals, 60 carbs, minimal fat, 10g protein
mayo 90 cals, 10g of fat.
    onion 100g, 50 cals, 10g carbs

It's not hard to figure the ingredients of most meals,
sure you may be off by a few grams of oil here and there, but if you are that worried then cook your on food.

You will not get an accurate reading from a restaurant menu, mostly because they will skew the facts to make it look healthier, or chefs will not accurately weigh every ingredient it may say 10g of oil in the recipe but Ive never met a cook who weighs his oil.
The most accurate method you have is eyeballing. So practice that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 501 ✭✭✭DL Saint

I have found that if you go to a good restaurant and you tell them that you are on a diet so you want your steak to be grilled as apposed to fried and trimmed of fat or you want 200g potato, they will normally be quite accommodating as they value your custom.

However as has been said if you want to be shredded by using flexible dieting you have to be super accurate so preparing your own foods is the only way to do this...
