Im 18 years old and I finished my leaving cert in June 2013. I am not going to college as I cannot afford it but was planning on doing a PLC in september. I don't have a job and haven't been able to get one. I don't know what do to as my parents want me to pay rent or else, move out. Am I entitled to any social welfare or any other suggestions as to what I can do?

Students who have completed the leaving cert in June 2013 have to wait 3 months before signing on. This will mean the earliest sign on date is mid September. You could contact your local CWO and they may be able to help you.

Parents seem very understanding considering you don't have a job or income.

Some people need a bit of 'motivation'.

Apologies. I have kids around similar age and would feel it unkind to give them such an ultimatum. Did not mean to insult your family.
