Heading to France on the ferry shortly so I decided to pop into Halfords as I was passing to pick up a spare bulb kit and a pair of headlamp beam deflectors. All good until I realise these two items were going to cost the bones of €34.

There was no way I could stomach that kind of gouging so drove up the road to a local motor factors in Swords. Both items supplied along with some friendly advice for €13. Admittedly not the exact same items but Halfords nearly three times more expensive. Never again will I darken their doors!

It's no secret - you pay more for the convenience of late/Sunday opening. Sometimes that's OK.

Always shop around when looking to buy in Halfords. To be fair to them, as expensive as they can be for some things they can genuinely be cheaper for others (especially for things like oil if they end up being on sale).

Halfords are grand for buying bits and bobs and I got my car stereo cheap from them.

However when I went to order fascia checked online and the correct double din one was 12.50 on their site and I told the young fella to order that with the stereo but instead he looks on computer tells me I'm wrong and orders a 23 euro one so I shrug and go with it.

Week later the lot arrives and they are fitting it and fascia is wrong and one he ordered was a single din so post fitting my stereo is hanging out half an inch and my air con lights and controls no longer work.

Wouldn't let them near my car again

In general halfords seem to sell bigger more expensive items at very good prices, and small little bits for crazy money.

You buy a bicycle and you might get it the cheapest around.
But if you add lights, bag, mudguards, and punture repair kit, you will pay for those 10 times more comparing to buying on ebay.

I recall few years back they were offering snow chains for around 100 euros while chains of the same quality were available in lidl for 25.

That Halfords is more expensive isn't really a surprise. I'd rather spend a few extra bob to line the pockets of the local factors. Or get it online if price really is important.
Sometimes you just don't have the option to go anywhere else.
    Supply and demand, is all.

The only time i really shop in halfords is when there's a 3 for 2 on cleaning stuff or else like somebody said above, when all other motorfactors are closed.
