Well lads i am going to start feeding a small lake to attract some duck to it. I was just wondering what would be the best to feed it with. At the edge of the lake the shallowest parts are 3 to 4 feet deep. i was wondering if i feed will the feed sink and the duck might not be able to get at it.

The duck will dive down and eat it so don't worry about that. I normally feed the ducks themselves wit rolled barley and whole barley. Throw in a few potatoes too they will smell the them once they start to ferment. Ur best bet is to put a few mallard on the pond to draw in wild ones if there is no mallard present on it

Thanks for the reply. I often see a few duck fly over the lake while im fly fishing. so i say it wont be too hard to get them to come in. The lake is also full of trout will they just end up eating the barley when i put it out.

I'm not sure to be honest. But it's worth a try, try load it into shallow edges where the trout wouldn't get to it as easy. If it was me I would buy 6 week old mallard and put them onto it and other duck will come with them on it

Trout wont eat it. If you scatter some around the bank of the shallowest part of the lake and in the shallow water. About 10 or 12 inches is ideal depth.

I fed a quarry hole last year. I used oats. I found it best to throw it in the shallow water. I was using a bucket full every third day. Biggest mistake I done was i gave it a break for a week before the first as their was only a few on it that morning. Feed it well the morning before the first. I was seeing anything up to 50 duck fling into it in the evening while I was going down to feed it.
