VW's DSG gearbox - when did they start using it?

    I have seen a few Touran's ranging from 2004 - 2008 listed as AUTOMATIC, and I was wondering if they would be the DSG gearbox or not.

    When did VW introduce it ?

    If it's a DSG then it should have it engraved on the shifter.

    Was it in all their Auto cars, or did they use a standard automatic gearbox alongside the DSG ones?

    I think they still offered the older auto box along side it on cheaper spec models.

    We've orders up in 2007 for Touran 1.6FSi Auto's, and 1.9Tdi DSG's.

    I know the Petrol ones actually ended up coming in as 1.4T DSG models (good fun to drive, when they worked) so that may have been the cut off.

    I think the 1.6Fsi had the standard auto, then 1.4T had the DSG. 1.9Tdi could be either, but looks like it was DSG from 07 onwards.
