Looking to get an extension done (Shomera/TF vs Block)

    Hi All

Myself and my husband are looking to get an extension done to the back of the house & we have been looking at both Shomera (as my husband likes timber frame construction and their designs are very nice) Vs traditional builder/brick route. We are both confused as to which route is better. A lot of people say concrete built is better built (drives the other half mad) but a lot of countries use timber frame for most buildings. Any advice/opinions? Looking at the advice both have pros/cons and price seems near enough to each other

Also do flat roofs work in ireland? Most people have bad things to say about them, but is this due to bad builders or that flat roofs dont work?

Hi, any update on what option you went for in the end? Looking at the same dilemma myself at the moment, any info appreciated

I would go for block. I have seen timber frames with rats eating pathways through timber joists just to mention one . I would also be slightly concerned if water was getting in somewhere causing rot. Also I cannot see any benefit of having a suspended timber floor. I would go for conctete every time.Less draughty.
    Regards

You could go for a fibreglass flat roof.
