Is it likely that the ppc1 will be full soon? Is it common that you can't get a place if you're later in the year?

Don't delay if you can help it but people do get accepted right up until the week before the course starts.

They don't operate quotas on entry so don't worry. If you are eligible to start they will take applications right up to the start. They are only too glad for the fees theseday considering grant levels and numbers seeking admission are generally down.

Grand, they told me a number of places were left, but you think I'm ok for a week or two to get it in?

When I did it there were people who had signed up the thursday before we started on the Monday.

Anyone know if it's difficult to get a grant? I'm filling in an application this evening so just wondering what my chances are. Mature student, independent, fook all wages etc etc

I'm a mature independent student and I applied for a grant last year. They originally said my income was too high from the previous year (I had left a decent-paying job to take on my apprenticeship at minimum wage) but on appeal agreed that I'd had a change of circumstances. The way the law is written they were actually not allowed to take the change of circumstances into account at first instance, which is bonkers.

I didn't get the maintenance grant but did get a contribution toward my fees: 67% of the Post Graduate Contribution Fee which amounted to €1,333.33. Also it took forever, I applied in July and finally got the payment around early April. They don't make it easy.

What are people doing about accommodation? I'm looking at apartment/house shares in the Liberties/Christchurch area. I've heard that Smithfield is a bit dodgy and Stoneybatter seems just a little too far from the City centre for my liking. Parnell Street and Mountjoy Square are options too.

Anyone else here in the same situation? Wouldn't mind sharing with someone else going to Blackhall actually so maybe someone here would be interested?

Smithfield's probably the least dodgy of those areas.

Accommodation here may be suitable in Kilmainham. Beside James Hospital Luas line too.
