Limited or unlimited licence?

    Me again!

The single barrel shotgun I have but do not use is currently licensed as limited, i.e. I am a landowner and I may use the gun for killing vermin only.

This was a bonus back in the day, as it cost only €6 p.a. and was cheaper than an unlimited licence. However, now that it costs €80 for three years regardless of whether the licence is limited or unlimited, I'm thinking I should apply for unlimited licence. Though I don't use the gun, I may do so but would be far more likely to shoot a pheasant than a rat or a rabbit.

To get an unlimited licence, is it just a case of saying this to the Gardai, or are there additional hoops I must go thru'?

    Thanks again.

I think you mean a 'limited' licence. A restricted licence is a completely different thing.

If its up for renewal just change it on your fca1 and make sure to add other landowners permissions so you meet the terms set out for haveing it.

Apparently (two Gardai have told me this) there is is no longer an "Unlimited" or a "Limited"!

If you have a shotgun, you can shoot game.

Well they are wrong, You can still apply for a limited licence.

    "5.2. - Farm/Land Nomination Details
    (c)
(Complete this section if a Limited Certificate is applied for) "

The quote is from the updated Fac1 form.

My licence arrived today. No mention of "Limited" or "Unlimited".

Did you fill in section 5.2 or not. If you did then you have a an unlimited cert. If not then you have a full license.

    Hi Cass,

Thanks for your efforts at clarifying this, but it's not quiet as black and white as that.
Section 5.2 had been pre-filled, based on the information I submitted three years ago. Nothing in Section 5.2 has changed at all.
My previous FCA1 form had Section 5.2 filled and my subsequent licence was limited.
My current FCA1 form had Section 5.2 filled and my subsequent licence is unlimited, apparently. I don't understand it. Anyway, all's well. I can shoot game in season if I wish.

    Thanks.
