I visited a Citizens Information Office today to find out how I would be fairing out if I were to get a part-time job...which I've had an interview for and it's promising...is it true that since I, with the part-time job, earning around €164, am not entitled to any social welfare supplements since I'm only 21? :/

Are you currently getting a payment? If so, which one and what is your weekly rate?

It depends what type of payment your partner is claiming.

If they are claiming Jobseekers Benefit (not means-tested), then the qualified adult payment will be €85.90 (based on gross weekly earnings of €164).

    http://www.welfare.ie/en/downloads/sw19.pdf (page 72 of 76).

If they are claiming Jobseekers Allowance (means-tested), it's calculated differently. Assuming you will be working at least 3 days per week, €60 is deducted from €164 leaving €104. The next step is to get 60% of this figure (equals €62.40 approx.). Means from employment would be €62.40 (can't remember if they're rounded up or down).

For JB - your partner's payment would be reduced by €38.90.

For JA - your partner's payment would be reduced by approximately €62.
