FOTR has a green tint that was accidentally applied to the whole film. Otherwise I believe the quality is excellent.

Thanks, I heard about this green tint, I thought it was only in the first releases tho ?

for some reason I thought there was a newer fixed version - or maybe I'm thinking of Gladiator.

The first release of the theatrical cut of FOTR didn't have a green tint but the picture quality was very poor (they used the DVD master). The green tint only effects the extended edition of FOTR. It was never fixed. Although some people have been able to reduce it by adjusting their TV's hue setting.

The Extended Trilogy was £22.50 a few weeks ago on Amazon so unless you're in a mad rush I would hold off and see if it drops down again.

Jackson has stated the green tint is not an accident, and unless your really looking its not that noticable
Both Peter Jackson and director of photography Andrew Lesnie have confirmed that the new color grade was intentional and was created under their supervision.
Anyway, each film is on two discs and the extras are dvds not blu-ray, but they were filed im SD anyway.
IMO the extended editions are much better than the originals, it comes with a handy scene guide as well to tell you which scenes are new or extended.

The film was deliberately re-colour graded for the Blu-ray, but in addition the whole film has a green tint (including the credits) that was certainly not intentional. Jackson just won't admit it because the studio obviously isn't willing to offer replacement discs. At the time Jackson denied it I don't think he had even seen the Blu-ray.

Any chance it was deliberate? I haven't seen the LOTR tint (or even heard of it until this thread) but I have watched the Indy movies on BD now and they have a (imho distracting) orangy/red tint on them that apparently was deliberately put there.

Either way though it's kind of annoying to see all the 'tweeting' that goes on with BD's. Only recently I found out that the images are often stretched and cropped differently to how they appeared previously on DVD (meaning small slivers of of the borders of the frame are often missing).

Top notch quality both visually and audio - demo disks of the highest order. As for the green tint it wasnt something that particularly bothered me i have to say and i always did think it was deliberate ha
