Removing Orange Peel

    Like the title says, what would be good for getting rid of orange peel on the paintwork? Is it possible to get rid of this with a DA polisher or would a rotary be needed? Or would I have to get out the emery paper first?

    Wet sanding would be the better way but with extreme care.
    I have done some panels on 2 cars but it is scary times while doing it.
    One second you are grand, the next you could be gone through lacquer. The orange peel could in fact be on the paint, then lacquered over so there would be no way of removing it. Possibly improve it alright.

    Wet sanding is the only way to have any success. It could be done with a DA, if you've got the patience :)

    Wouldn't advice doing it without a paint depth guage to give you at least a bit of an indication of how much paint you are removing.

    I've no experience with the CarPro Orange Peel Pads, however reports suggest that the are not suitable for a DA polisher. Even if the OP was to get access to a rotary, it is very risky, without a depth guage and probably more risky than wetsanding, using them with a machine.

    Another thing to consider is that they are designed to skim the peaks of the orange peel, which means they arent the best for correction; you could still be left with quite a few Random Deep Scratches (RDS's), which in turn would need correction using traditional techniques.
    Quite a few pads are needed for one car alone, although, they are priced reasonably well.

    All that said, they would save a lot of time spent wet sanding!

    Thanks for the replies. For a daily driver that sounds like it's too much effort :) There's a lot more I could do to improve the car's appearance before fixing the orange peel would make a big difference.

    Would wet sanding remove clear coat so a new clear coat can be put on
