Ryanair hand luggage

I'm sorry for a Ryanair hand luggage question as they are probably asked all the time, but I'm confused about how they check the size.

I'm flying into Lublin at the end of July and my hand luggage is all spot on in size except for the pockets at the front, they bulge out another 5cm but they can be pushed in to make the right size. However once let go they bulge out 5cm too much.

Will this pass or not worth the risk and should I just pay now to check it in?

    Thanks for the advice :)

If you don't fill it, and you can squeeze it in that's all that matters. I have seen a bag forced in that was so tight it could not be taken out for 15 minutes in which time they missed checking loads of bags but the women still got on without paying for the bag

When you put the bag in the box, standing on the legs of the box will make it easier pull the bag out.

Fidn someone with a bigger bag, go in right behind them.

I honestly don;t get checked all that often (apart from bloody Berlin) but if it;s a backpack, wear it as a backpack - this tricks them into thinking it'll more thank likely fit.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Worse case scenario just go around the corner and put some stuff in your jacket.

The RA staff at the gate have a cardboard box with a handle. Here's a picture of it.

    http://www.givemebackmyfivebucks.com/2012/05/25/why-ryanairs-cheap-flights-arent-that-cheap/

It is the exact size and shape as a wheelie suitcase that meets the size limits of 55-40-20. The box has no bottom and interior of it is hollow. As you are waiting to board, the RA staff come down the line to check that you have your boarding pass. They will eyeball your bag too. If they think it may be too big, they will lift up their wee box and slide it over your bag.

If their box slides over yours with out too much effort, you are good to go. If your bags outside pockets are empty, and all you have to do is pass your hand over them to make them lie flat as the box is being slid down it, you shouldn't have a problem. However, if you fill the front pockets up with stuff and they are bulging out to their full additional 5cm in size, then the box will not fit over your bag. The box has rigid cardboard sides, so it has very little give in it. If it doesn't fit, it doesn't fit & you'll be made to check it in.

If they don't have a box, they will have a stationary metal frame at the gate that you'll be asked to put your bag into. If it fits in without too much pushing and pulling, you'll be fine. If it doesn't, you'll have to check it. When you arrive at the airport, head on over to the check in desks. They'll have the metal frame yokes there. You can test your bag to see if it fits, without the stress of doing it at the actual departure gate.

    Who's RA? Nepal Airlines?

If you're going to use an acronym, use the right one. i.e. FR for Ryanair.

I was using an abbreviation, not an acronym, but thanks anyway. :)

A friend is flying from Luton to Knock tomorrow for a wedding and needs to take a hat with her. Has she any option except to wear the hat as she cannot run the risk of crushing it in her luggage?

Interesting idea. How much stuff can she fit under the hat?
