People who don't ''know stuff''

    Was tempted to write 'women' instead of people there, as that's what has prompted me to make the post, but I am sure there are plenty of similarly clueless blokes out there too, as AH demonstrates on a daily basis:pac:

    So yeah, I have several female friends, plus my girlfriend, who seem to be a bit clueless when it comes to The Big Bad World. They are all mature sensible people, and very ''book smart'' having all degrees and the like.
    However, they never watch the news, don't really grasp basics such as politics and economics and what is happening in the world right now, and as far as 'general knowledge' goes, it's shocking. (countries, capitals, famous historical events and world leaders etc). One friend is even training to be a lawyer and is very intelligent, but her grasp of general knowledge is alarming (one of those people who couldn't tell you who was involved in or when WW2 was)

    Some things I have heard literally only in the past week from one friend are things like;
    ''What's the G8?''
    ''Why, what's happening in Syria?''
    ''Sure, I thought Scotland was Independent anyway, like Australia!''
    ''Snowdonia, that's not a real place!'' (after I said I was going there soon)

    I have a friend who admittedly ''never watches the news'' and she said the last time was probably for the Royal Wedding :eek: and I have found this is quite common, especially for females. When was the last time you saw a women reading a newspaper, for example? Sure the tabloid papers are often ****e, but at least you get an idea of what's happening as opposed to the ****e that women read.

    So, is it completely fine to be in your own little bubble and just get on with things and not worry about the wider world around you if you feel it does not directly effect you?
    In some ways we all do this to different extents, and are all ignorant to varying degrees.

    But sometimes it does seem to just take the piss.:confused:

    Some people just don't care about the world around them. Sad but true.

    You started off your post claiming it was about people who weren't full of knowledge but by the end of the post you couldn't help but turn it into a women bashing thread.

    Meet new people if the ones you know aren't up to your standards.
