Well, what do you call it?
I've always known it as "going to the pictures". People who said "cinema" were usually a bit posh.
And people who said "The Flicks" were just douchebags.

    The Parish Hall.

Because that's where the films were shown.:(

Funnily enough now I think of it, I pretty much just say "I'm going to see <name of movie> later", or "let's see if there's a good new movie to see". Hardly ever actually refer to the place I'm going to see it unless I'm being specific about WHICH one (If you're in Dun Laoghaire would you be up for IMC tonight? Hey, will be around Stillorgan Tuesday afternoon, might see something in Ormonde if you're around?" etc.

Always the cinema. The pictures is what older people say, at least in my neck of the woods anyway.

Whatever happened to calling them " the talkies" ?

I'd say cinema, my parents would say the pictures.

Probably use "cinema" more than "pictures", but interchange the two.

Never, ever, ever say "movies", though.

"I'm going to see a film", or "Want to come to the flicks?" I'm not a douchebag.

    They're not Movies either, they're Talkies! :p

I'd ordinarily use Cinema despite most of them now being cineplexes.

I don't know anyone under age 50 who says the pictures. I have heard my aunt use the term though. I'd guess the term originates from the silent movies of old, but that's just a guess.

I love impromptu soiree's to the talkies to regarde the latest moving picture with my favourite silver screen actor.

I always ask girls if they would like to go to the pictures with me? Is this why they always reject me, because I should say cinema instead?:pac:

No, it's probably because you're having a quick shuffle inside your raincoat, nothing to do with saying the pictures :)

I say Cinema myself but I'm about as posh as a cattle trailer:D

The moving pictures or the talkies.

Ya can't spell "SOAP" without "OAP", which is ironic given most of them smell like piss.

I say cinema, so does everyone I know, I am not posh and I don't really think anyone I know is. The pictures would be something that oldies say as far as I know, I don't even think my parents would say the pictures.

"I am going to the cinema to see the pictures". On the other hand if you're trying to impress a member of the opposite sex you might say "Flick, would ya go"? It's as simple as that. If I'm feeling a little cheeky (which is rare) I might use the term 'movies'.
