2010 Mazda 6 TS2 2.2 Engine Write Off

Just had a fairly catastrophic incident with my Mazda 6 TS2 2.2 163bhp 2010 reg car. First registered in March 2010

Driving to work last week and after about half a mile the oil light came on the car. Don't know much about engines and thought that's odd as I only bought the car 2 months previously and didn't think it would need oil already. Was on a fairly dodgy twisty back road so stopped when I could which was in less than one mile and a knocking sound was coming from the engine and it was losing power at this point.

Got tow truck and brought it to Mazda main dealer where I have just learned that the engine is a write off !!!! and I need a new engine block

Apparently the injectors have got clogged up with carbon and this has blocked filters and somehow ended up forcing shards of metal into the engine and destroying it

It only has 53,000 miles and a perfect on time (ahead of time in some instances) service history from 2 Mazda main dealers. Last service was at 49,500 miles

I can see with Google searches and on here many instances of engine failure on older Mazda 6 2.0 engines but see nothing on the newer ones(2008 onwards) Has anyone else come across this..

If you don't have a warranty and with a full Mazda service history I'd be looking for goodwill from Mazda.

Thanks, that's what I'm hoping for but wanted to try and gauge if it's a bigger issue or just pure bad luck.

where did you buy the car?

If young only bought the car 2 months ago then surely you have some sort of guarantee unless you bought it privately?

3 months is standard if bought from a garage

I would at first contact the garage and allow them to proffer a solution.

If none is forthcoming I would continue forthwith to the Small Claims Court

It seems that failures are rare on the 2.2. Have you spoken to the dealer regarding them putting forward a case to Mazda? It's not well below the mileage threshold of the warranty and only just beyond the time of it. They really should be stepping up to the mark on this one and looking after you on the repairs. They have a reasonably active Facebook page, maybe you could post something there?

Bought from dealer and they are honouring guarantee it came with so no issues cost wise for me. The submission for goodwill I'm told by mazda main dealer will be better received coming from me than the dealer who I bought from and can't fault for their response to issue. Trying to get as much info as I can first though. I'm begining to think the apparent uniqueness of the issue will work in favour of getting goodwill

With the 2.2 it's not as common as with the 2.0 diesel but it all depends how the last owner used it also, the Mazda diesel is known to not like stop start traffic at all needs constant driving and you do need too monitor the oil to ensure diesel is not getting into it.

Although this is twice in the last while boards.ie has had a 2.2 Mazda Diesel engine failure post.

OP I hope you bought in a garage and have a comeback here.

Edit: Just saw above post from OP

Hi Coolisin, could not see a 2.2 engine failure thread for newer engine. Can you post I link if you get a chance, thanks
