Tax back on third level fees

For the 2011/2012 academic year I had to pay full fees which totalled approximately €7,000. This fee is eligible for tax back, but since I was a student and unemployed I would obviously not be able to make a claim for myself.

According to Revenue's leaflet here any individual can claim tax back on my fees, assuming they have paid them. I therefore transferred the full fee amount into my fathers account, who subsequently paid the fees.

My question is, since I essentially gave him the entire amount, is he still eligible to claim the tax relief?

Generally, for any person to claim tax relief for expenditure that someone else has incurred is tax evasion.
