plus €10 argos voucher if bought on Sunday 30th

    http://www.argos.ie/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Search?storeId=10152&catalogId=14551&langId=111&searchTerms=u180&authToken=

has mic & webcam so it is great for skype, both vga and hdmi outputs (hdmi with video and sound) perfect for watching rte player, netflix etc. on your telly

the only downside is that it really needs memory upgrade (which is cheap enough - 2GB for €10 on adverts - but it voids warranty as you need to remove sticker to do that) if you want to do more than one thing at once

cheap enough but imo 10 inch laptops are just too small. 11.6 screen ones are a much better option from the point of view of the screen and typing on the keyboard....

Colours mightn't be every ones cup of tea

160€ after the 10€voucher seems good enough

wouldn't mind getting 1 for that price for travelling but that pink cover puts me off, i suppose there is no way of buying a replacement cover online somewhere?

Just search ebay for (msi, latop, netbook) (skin, vinyl, sticker, decal) or just get a piece of carbon fire wrap.

Just keep in mind the processor isn't great in these, so even for some tasks on the net it might struggle, mainly stuff like rte player, netflix is where you might get caught.

I got a predecessor of this one (a U135 DX) a couple of years ago for fairly cheap too. Upgraded the RAM to 2 GB, put Windows 7 on it but as @imitation says, it struggles CPU wise.

i went and bought this anyways.... my old laptop was missing keys here and there and i needed something cheap and cheerful...

so far so good, neat, clear screen and has been fine for the browsing on it so far...
very good value for money for what i need it for (bearing in mind i am probably teh only person in ireland that doesn't use Netflix and all that jazz)

CPU in the op has double the benchmark and the graphics 'card' - gma3600 runs twice the speed 400MHz with twice as many cores 4, scores much better.

i think it will be the ram that is the weakest part here, didn't had any problem with cpu\gpu power so far, but it really only allows to run one thing at the time with 1GB*

    *thanks MS http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9133460/Report_Microsoft_sets_specs_for_netbook_only_Windows_7

according to cpubenchmark.net this atom cpu is on average as fast as Intel Pentium 4 3.73GHz which should be plenty for everything that you could use netbook with such a small screen anyway (and gpu - GMA3650 is qualified as class 4 by notebookcheck.net: "Low-End Graphics Cards - Non demanding games should be playable with these graphics cards.")

my advice - buy it, use it, if you find it 'too slow' don't get frustrated but simply upgrade the ram** - it will noticeably improve the speed

**anyone that has a small phillips screwdriver can do that, really, it is that simple

Had an old netbook, a MSI one and put extra memory up to 2GB and also put an SSD drive into it.

With Windows 8 installed it is a very quick machine.

It struggled a bit under XP.

The MSI machines usually have loads of stuff available such as extended batteries on ebay.

I have both, and in all honesty both are ignored pretty heavily ! I'm stuck in my ways and have to sit at a computer if I want my browsing fix, although I'd take the netbook over the tablet if I had to do alot of browsing and typing.

Tablets are nice for very casual surfing in front of the TV, and they are invaluable for showing off pictures or showing movies to the kids, anything that basically involves physically passing the device around. They are also great for the instant fix as you'll generally have it powered and you just have to flick the screen to get the name of that movie actor.

The netbook can do all the above, but its just a bit more fiddly, it might take a minute to boot up if its powered off (although standby can get around that) and people will have to press keys to flick through pictures and stuff. Where its super handy is if you need to do any productivity work at all, you can have ms office for opening and editing files without any issue.

I took my old first gen atom netbook on a holiday trip to Japan, it was invaluable for backing up the photos I took. It also really came in handy for hotels that had no wifi but had an ethernet connection and every website worked correctly. If I had taken my tablet it would have been useless in some hotels, wouldn't have the hard disk to store all the photos and wouldnt be able to read from the camera memory card anyway.

One other advantage is longevity, if you look at android 2.3 you'll see it supports a lot less programs that say windows XP, I know one doesnt do much with a netbook, but its handy if its still able to get a new version of a web browser 2-3 years down the line etc
