Interested in a UK car but VRT calculator seems wrong?

I am interested in a Mazda 5 from the UK.

If I put all the details into the ROS Calculator I get emissions of 198, whereas the seller claims its actually 187. It makes a difference of nearly €500 in VRT cost.

If I put the car reg into this calculator
    http://www.motorcheck.ie/blog/vrt-calculator/
then it seems to give me the lower amount, and the emissions that the seller claims.

Is the Revenue Calculator known to be wrong?

And if I go to my local NCT centre when I bring the car back, what will they use?

the emmissions rate on the V5C will be taken as GOSPEL by NCTS and Revenue NIMAN.

and yeah, the online calculator is often wrong.....

The true figure is on the v5 cert

Do they take extras into consideration when coming up with the VRT amount?

Its a Sport model, and its the one I am using for the calculation, but this car has leather upholstery which most of the Mazda 5's don't have, inc the Sport model.

it depends, you can get lucky and they'll not notice, or they might do an inquiry on the chassis no, and if its deemed as an extra, there will be a surcharge

I don't think they count extras outside of specs on Mazdas

Used Mazda 5 petrols are fairly cheap here, is it even worth going to the UK for one?

Also the VRT calculator is not an exact figure and should not be taken as gospel , it is an estimation.

Nearly every Mazda 5 I have seen in Ireland does not have a spec anywhere near the UK one. There's loads for sale yet I have yet to see one with leather seats.

Its even rare to see them with privacy glass. Seems to be no equivalent of the Sport model here.
    all very dull looking here.

Believe me, I'd much prefer to buy here, and not worry about flights, ferries, VRT inspections & payments, NCT which might fail etc etc. But I am finding the choice poor here.

Also looking around at Tourans, FR-Vs and Corolla Verso's. Still can't decide which I need.

Mazda's are not huge sellers here and the spec were always odd.

Current model Mazda 5 Sport comes with leather.

Actually, it's sold with Leather as standard, but fitted with leather when it arrives.

Presume it's the same for the UK, as they are all produced in the same factory.

I'm buying 07/08 though, not a newer model.
