I thought this particular act was barbaric, a Catholic Church was desecrated and two members were decapitated publicly by Islamic terrorists in Syria including a priest. How come these barbaric acts are not getting the publicity that they should in western media.

Well probably because they weren't actually beheaded

Don't get me wrong, someone was beheaded. But it is unclear when and by who? This video appears to be old, which would be why a recent beheading is not being reported by "western media". Previous beheadings and the rising influence of Islamic extremists in the rebel forces have been covered in the west. In fact the Economist had a good report on this only a few weeks ago.

Thanks for the link. Pretty gruesome stuff. There were 3 decapitations, and all done in quite a savage fashion.

Any mention of this in the Islamic forum? The perpetrators and onlookers were shouting Allahu Akbar so they definitely seemed to be claiming to be followers of that religion of peace.

Looking forward to a public Savita-like outcry soon. (unless of course it remains just a catholic interest story rather than human interest one.)

WTF? Er, the death toll in the Syrian civil war has topped 100,000. Given the conflict has been going on for just over 2 years that is on average 136 a day. Is there supposed to be "Savita-like outcry" for this particular killing because they were Catholics? Is that worse than Muslims getting killed? Or is it because they are (possibly) Europeans?

Whilst most-informed people are aware of the difficulties faced by our religious kin in that region it appears other news sources cast doubt on the slayings - link. Either way, RIP.

You would have a good point if the 100,000 you speak of died by having their heads cut off by a muslim holy man shouting allahu akbar in the midst of a crowd of cheering onlookers.

do you not see this as a bit of 'cleaning up' behind the lines?

rather like the provo freedom fighters of recent memory who policed their turf with similar, though less public, barbarities.

Because you should only care about someone being killed if they are beheaded by a Muslim holy man shouting allahu akbar...?

I see this as a tragic murder of a group of people, one of literally hundreds of thousands of tragic murders in that region over the last 2 years.

Instead of wondering why these deaths haven't sparked some acceptable level of outrage in the west, maybe ask yourselves why you think these deaths are so worthy of special attention where as all the others don't.

if the victim happened to be an American Jew,for example, it might get wider news coverage http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Pearl

We already have a thread on religious freedom, and there have been countless threads on Politics about Syria. This forum isn't the place to make digs about Muslims or the Islam forum either - closed.
