Okay guys,
Not sure if this is the right area to post this, but running out of places to look.

Its my dads birthday at the end of the year and I want to get him something special for it.
I want to get him something different, that has meaning to him.

He is a retired seafarer and I am thinking along the lines of something like an old telegraph or compass binnacle etc. Only snag is I havent been able to find any, well not without having to travel to foreign lands to get it.
I dont mind getting one that is a bit of a mess, as I have plenty of time to fix it up.

Anyone got any ideas????? Or even got something like that lying around in your attic or shed, I am open to suggestions also.

It might be worth going along to some boat jumble sales or markets they sometimes pop up.

Thanks for the reply.
Yeah unfortunately keep missing out on the jumbles, will have to keep a eye out for the next one.
I know quality comes with a price tag, but at the moment those are out of the price range.
I am sure I will find the right thing to get him. I am thinking that it might be nice to get one prior to do being fixed up.
Would be nice to be able to say "I did that"...

I got an old light from the guy that owns HMS Portisham in Balbriggan you can see it here http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=81541574 he might be worth dropping down to offering him a few quid for something. You could also try some old boat yards.

No he's an off the grid type of guy:) and lives on the boat your best bet would be to take a walk down the harbour and have a chat with him he is always pottering about fixing up the boat and loves a chat.
