    Long story short...

Car keeps failing nct on emissions, today was the 3rd retest and its failed again.

Question is, if I book it in for another retest, can we keep driving it once its booked in? We need to make a decision whether to repair or replace it, but can't afford to do it straight away and OH needs to use it to get to work.

you can keep driving it but have a liability to get pulled over.

If its not a broken part on the car causing emissions faults then look into getting the car terracleaned . Theres ads on done deal for people that do it and its quite cheap in comparison to buying a new car.

As far as I know parts are all okay, cat and lambda sensor both replaced. Emissions were very high though, have you experience with the terraclean? It would be worth doing if I thought it would help get it through the nct though.

OP has already put a cat and a lambda into the car and people are recommending dipetane:eek:

Forget about dipetane and terraclean, you would just be wasting money, get the car to another garage and get the car diagnosed properly.

Never heard of anyone who was specifically pulled in for an out of date NCT.Have known people who were asked about it when they met a checkpoint but everything was fine when they could show the guard the appointment on their phone

Depends on how badly the OP failed last time. If changing the cat improved the result a bit and the lambda another bit then he might be close to passing.
If you are a long way from passing then dipetane wont help but if your close it can make a difference.

    Emissions were as follows
    Low idle
    CO 1.35 HC 381ppm
    High idle
    lambda 1.01 CO 2.72 HC 490ppm

So im assuming it a long way off

By the way we tried the diptane and gave it a good run before the test, basically followed all previous advice

you would PROBABLY get away with it if stopped, but basically it is NOT OK to drive without the NCT being passed.Your car could be seized
