I can't imagine it being anything other than a slow , headmelting experience. Have started to try a few times myself and have found it just feels so uncomfortable that i just quit. i'd imagine you'll be kissing goodbye to any kind of form for up to a year before it feels natural to you.

Only took it up seriously this year ie joined a club and got GUI handicap . Played a bit over the years not much but weekly since January . I just think since its my first serious year it might be worth switching , stay away from comps just practice new grip and swing and get some lessons in the off season .

I made this change in Feb this year after playing cack handed for about 2 years.

    Thread here: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=82713130

In short it's the best thing I've done in relation to playing golf. I have more power in my swing and I feel I'm ready to move onto next stage.

You'll have to accept a few weeks of just playing very poorly. But to be honest after about 5 weeks it felt like my usual grip. My advice would be to start the process with a pro and work from there. The way I look at it is you will learn how to grip properly as you've never done it before. Skips the whole bad habits from learning off mates and Internet over the years.

I was so reluctant to do it but delighted I did as the benefits far outweigh a few weeks of rubbish. Stay away from scoring comps and play casual rounds. Most important is lessons from day 1.

Let me know if there is anything specific you need to know and ill try to help.

    Good luck.

That's great thanks . I want to give it my best shot . was out in a local range wen the club pro came over to me and my friend who plays correct grip . All he said made sense he showed me correct grip and a swing exercise and just said to practice holding the club anytime I can like even for 5 mins a day and do swing exercise every day as well for 6 weeks and to then go back to him and get some proper lessons as at least ill have been swinging and holding the club someway right . I got 7 holes in this eve shot 47 all over the place but odd half decent shot I could see from closer in the height difference in sw pw Etc so I'm determined to give it my best and I may also bit the bullet and start getting lessons in 2-3 weeks time as unsaid don't want to be picking up bad habits .

Only reason I asked is because I changed over myself last year . I was only playing 3 months at the time so didn't find it too difficult . Like Lawman said it took a few range sessions to feel normal but you will be very happy you changed . Best of luck with it

That's funny as I also played P&P and was very tidy at it. The deeper shoulder turn is not really needed in P&P so you get away with it.

I don't think you'll need 6 weeks of trying out the new grip at home etc. I can't stress enough how important it is to start off correctly. Get a lesson on Day 1 of the change. I spent one full lesson on Day 1 just getting the new grip in place. There will be tweaks and changes along the way so don't panic.

Day 1 = lesson with a decent teaching pro. Might take 6/7 weeks and 3/4 lessons but you'll get there.

PS don't worry the 'odd' feeling goes away!

Fair balls lawman, i was only thinking the other day who it was that was making the change. Glad to hear its going well. Maybe some day il try it, when the little fella gets older id like to show him how to swing a club, properly.

A lot easier than I thought it would be padzer. As long as you start 100%. Best thing I've done and if you're thinking about it just take the plunge.

2 lessons in and I'm delighted I made the change extremely long road ahead but can already see the advantages with height and ball flight .

I used to play cack handed to and am annoyed that i didnt try changing sooner, i played on and off for a few years with the wrong grip and changed within the last 2 years. i have no clue how i ever made contact with the ball holding it cack handed.

One of the main things is probably not what you should do but what you shouldnt do. this being no matter how awkward or fed up you might get hitting bad shots with the new grip dont ever ever ever go back to the old grip, not even for one shot.

Be stubborn with it, best of luck progressing.

See if you can pick up one of those clubs with the grip or Something like

i went from baseball to overlapping and had something like these years ago, u can use it around the house and it is great for getting the hands in the right position.
First thing i ask the pro when i go for a lesson are u happy with the grip, posture and alignment. Even if you have been playing for years it is amazing how easily they can slip.
