Has anyone had both of these in their hands and is the 10 the exact same as the 7 except for the size? I tried a 7 today and if the 10 is the same only bigger I'd definitely get one. Also, do they allow you to use external memory, e.g. a USB key for getting access to external files? I know it doesn't have expandable memory but if I could just plug in my USB drive (using an adaptor of course) it would do fine for watching movies etc. Thanks!

If you root it you can use an OTG cable (very cheap on ebay and similar) to plug in a usb drive for read and write. Without rooting you can pay about €3 for an app called Nexus Media Importer which will allow you to read only access to a usb drive via an OTG cable which functions fine to watch movies/tv shows from. The only draw back is because it needs to be plugged in via micro usb you can't charge it while watching, but that shouldn't be an issue most of the time I would imagine.

I have a Nexus 10 and think it's great but it is certainly far less portable than a Nexus 7 unless you carry around a larger bag with you. Not an issue for me though as my phone is fine if I need it out and about.

    I have both the N7 and N10.

As mentioned the Nexus 10 has capability for HDMI out which the Nexus 7 does not.
In daily usage the N10 screen is much more impressive and much smoother in use - I guess down to the extra RAM. Speaker placement and sound on the N10 is much better as well.

Both devices can read from a USB key using an OTG cable without the need for root, you just need the Nexus Media Importer app available on the Play store.

I tend to use the N7 when out an about (it's smaller size makes it a great [portable device and ebook reader in particular) whereas the N10 is better for watching video.

Thanks for all the info lads. 99% sure I'll be getting it next month.

I was just looking at the new Samsung Galaxy tab 3 and I can't believe Samsung are trying to position this as a market leading tablet. It's specs are well below that of the Nexus 10 with a higher price. Baffling

They're not, the Galaxy tab range has become their mid range, eh, range. The Note range is now their flagship range.

Either way, it's a newly released tablet, more expensive than the Nexus 10 with very poor specs in comparison.

Can someone please help, I must have hit a button or setting somewhere on my Nexus 7 and I can no longer access my onscreen keyboard, this used to pop up automatically when you tap any area that accepts text but now only the microphone search option is the only option open to me I have trawled through my settings but can not find the option to turn off the microphone search option and bring back the keyboard... any help would be appreciated

Settings > Language and Input > Keyboard & Input Methods
You probably have Voice Typing as default
