New CAP reforms to destroy Wildlife

    Depressing stuff!

When I was learning about CAP in the past the main positive seemed to be that it was reformed every few years, so there seemed to be some hope that that meant it would be gradually improved as time went on - but that obviously isn't the case! Another wasteful use of taxpayers money, and making life more difficult for the farmers who have the right ideas re: the role of farming in modern Europe.

The uphill struggle for wildlife conservation and general sustainability just got a bit steeper!

I'm not in the least bit surprised by this outcome. The current minister's background puts him very much in the corner of the biggest, weathiest agri-business players. He was never going to do anything for smaller farmers, wildlife, sustainable rural development etc. Indeed if you look at the voting records of the 2 main parties in this state at an EU level(MEP), you will see time and time again that they support measures that are harmfull to the environment, sustaineable smaller producers etc. in order to suit powerfull corporate vested interests.

There is a big difference between a 30% cut and "up to 30%" cut. The minister has already flagged that some type of headage payment will be re-introduced which will favour the bigger producers. His Dept has already shut or severely limited agri-environmental scheme like REPS etc. to pay for such measures.
