Why do cows not eat the grass near their dung

If slurry is applied they have to eat the grass because the slurry covers all areas. But they avoid the grass near their dung

Cows won't eat grass directly after slurry is applied. It needs several weeks so that the slurry is washed off the grass and into the ground and even then, cattle will only eat the fresh sprouts of grass that come up.

Cattle won't but sheep will, which is a big plus, if you have them.
