    Hi all,

Planning on having my own little Rav4 by the end of the week. One really caught my eye during the week in Kerry. Bit of a drive, but I liked the look of it. Unfortunately, it sold during the week, so I was a bit disappointed:

However, (un)luckily(?) it appears to be available again:

The ad features only a mobile number, but it's down as a dealer sale and listed as BG Motors. Is this a common thing? When I bought my car off a dealer it wasn't marked sold until about a week later on DoneDeal.

Presumably a dealer isn't marking things sold until he has the cash in his hand. So is this a sign of a deposit being taken and then the sale falling through, or the new owner finding a horrible issue with the car and hastily returning it?

I like the look of it, but I'm a bit weary now, just thought I'd ask ye limousine ridin', jet flyin', kiss stealin', wheelin' n' dealin' son's of guns what you thought of it?

Dodgy, or above board (I know nobody actually knows, but just looking for advice. It's literally the opposite side of the country so quite a trek for it, so figured I'd ask on here).

    Cheers :)

could be as simple as the original buyer couldn't come up with the money after agreeing to buy it, however the alarm bells are ringing so if you have any doubt then walk away, its not as if its a rare car so there will be others

ring him and ask straight out what the story is - maybe he hit the sold button on DD by accident ?
See what the explanation is, if you are not happy, then walk away. Pointless asking here as folk here know nothing about the causes despite the plethora of hypothesise you get here !

I plan to ring and ask but wont be until tomorrow (not going to ring the man at 10pm).

Has anyone ever dealt with BG Motors?

People do stupid things sometimes, like the gob****e 18 year old who owned my car before me, who bought the car without bothering to check if he could afford to insure it, and ended up selling it on two weeks later.

If you are not happy with the explination given then walk away.

    Yeah but that's okay, because it's part of a trilogy;

  I'll ring him now...

    Just rang him there now.

He said it's in decent condition, few scratches here and there as would be expected for a car from 2004 (?) but when I asked him about the sold thing, he said what he does is he bumps the ads every couple of days and when he deletes them they get automatically marked as sold.

He reckons if I go through all his other ads I'll see the same with his other cars (but DoneDeal only shows me the stuff for sale, so I can't actually see anything he's already marked as sold).

I suppose that seems plausible enough, in fairness. Make sense to ye guys (who would be much more familiar with DoneDeal than I)?

Makes sense if you can afford it because if I was looking for a car I wouldn't normally check an ad a second time after I've looked at it and most browsers will mark the link as read.

Putting the ad up again means it shows as a new link. 5 euro to do it but you normally get the most interest in your ad within the first few days as it's on the first couple of pages.

Is he using a different number each time?

I think that was our demo rav4

Like a different phone number? No.. Same name (BG Motors) and number each time, from what I can see.

Is it being a Demo RAV4 a good or bad thing? I'd have thought a demo car would be highest of high spec with leather seats and the likes?

If the phone number stays the same then don't worry about it.

When you delete an ad, DD defaults to the reason being 'sold', if you have the link saved, it'll show up.

Its not a bad thing, it would account for one owner, generally they had accessories on them, that one has the spoiler, rear light covers and steps which would have been seriously expensive at the time. Usually you'd do a 1.8 luna model as these were by far the best seller. non metallic black was good for demos cos they were €500 cheaper.

As he is a dealer he is probably using a package deal rather than putting the ads up individually.

The stock loading software they use is absolutely sh1te so I would say the "sold" ads are a quirk of this system rather than anything to be concerned about.
