Irish line up a the time was:
    Base
    SE
    Sport

Majority will be 2.0Tdi models (unless you are looking for a rare 1.8T model) which came in various different tune levels
    120ps
    136ps (2010 onwards)
    143ps
    170ps

Most will probably be 120ps, but there should be a fair few 143ps models which is better to drive, but I wouldn't pay a big premium for it. 136ps models never really sold in Ireland, and the 170's or quattro versions are very rare.

I'd be looking for an SE as the minimum. This gave the multi function steering wheel, Upgraded radio and cruise. 09 models have electric seat adjustment but 16" wheels, 2010 models lost the electric seats but got 17" wheels.

Sport in 09 got you Xenon Lights, 17" Alloys, 3 Spoke Sport Multi function steering wheel and sports seats. 2010 models got 18" 5 Spoke Alloys and Aluminium inlays.

There were special value options packs available as well which were very good value so were added to a lot of cars. It's mainly the S-Line pack which was the body styling and 18" wheels - looks like this was mid/late 2010 and was added on top of base, SE or Sport.

Then, there are plenty of UK imports which tend to have a better specification than the Irish models. Generally the same engine line up, but the 136ps was more popular over there due to tax breaks on driver's BIK.

Whatever you go for, make sure it has Servotronic steering. Steering in the A4 is heavy enough with it, but without Servotronic it's very, very heavy.

If you've got the budget, this is the one to go for - http://www.carzone.ie/search/Audi/A4/2.0TDI-1/34113669756458720/advert?channel=CARS - don't see many to that specification.

That's top dollar for that A4 imo. I test drove a similar year higher spec A6 170bhp S Line Le Mans the other day and the dealer was asking for less money than that A4. A6 might be older in design but better value for money than the A4 imo.

But the A6 is FWD :P

I'm pretty sure the A4 in Cork was one of our cars originally, and if it's the one I'm thinking of it's was close enough to €50k retail, which is more than the 170 S-Line A6 Innovation (more or less the same as the UK Le Mans spec) was at the time.

Plus - dealers are going bat sh1t crazy for Red A4's at the moment! Working out well for us that one customer couldn't get metallic in to budget and most of the drivers went Red in their base model 09 A4's rather than Black or White (although White sells very well too) :D

I totally skipped over the Quattro part of the advert. :) Would not be gone on red myself but that's me.
