OK, with all this recent talk of how many putts we should be taking per round etc. etc. I would be interested in seeing all of your stats.

Mine are logged via GolfShot Lite and I have been collecting since Feb 2011.

Not pleasant reading but here goes. I am aware how abysmal my DIF and GIR stats are by the way, but I would like to see some of yours, so that I can compare.

    Handicap 11
DIF (Drives on Fairway) : 25.7%
GIR (Greens in Regulation) : 18.9%
    Up/Down : 16.8%
    Sand Saves : 10.6%
PpH (Putts per Hole) : 1.81
PpGIR (Putts per Green in Regulation) : 2.09

    Statistics across 105 scorecards.

People could update their posts here every now and again to reflect change / progress.

Golfshot Lite is free. The full version gives you GPS distances and stuff but for just tracking your scores and stats then the Lite is fine.

Just had a quick look and I can't find it either, PGA TOUR Caddie does the same thing I think, might be worth checking out.

Can golfshot be a bit of a pain on the course? Just downloaded it there and a bit concerned with having to fiddle with it began each hole. Is it handy enough to use? Doesn't take much time?

I would hope most people would record their stats on golfshot after their round. Only started using golfshot so will post stats when I have more representative figures.

So you've to go back over each hole after your round from memory? Or am I missing something?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,733 ✭✭✭SnowDrifts

Well that's what I do anyway. Really not hard to remember as you go through hole by hole afterwards. And that's from someone with a dodgy memory at best.

In fairness the only courses that I can remember accurately are the ones I know very well. Even then you can sometimes forget what happened with a particular putt or two.

My method is simple. I mark out the DIF and GIR on every hole when marking my card. I also mark whether I am in sand, whether I have a penalty and the number of putts. Once this is done, it takes 5 mins after the round when I'm at home with a coffee to key it into the app.

One question for you Golfshot aficionados out there. When marking whether you are in sand or not, I exclude fairway bunkers as this will affect your sand save stats and you're never going to save when you're in a bunker 300 yards from the hole.

I presume you all do this also and only key in sand when in a greenside bunker ?

By the way I have no idea where GolfShot has gone from the App Store. That's worrying :-/

    3 2

    3 2

How I keep track of my round (not many played yet). First number is drives/irons, if I hit fairway I cross through the number. Second number is obvioulsy putts. Saves it getting too messy.

i do it as i go along, its not that hard, and relatively quick.

golfshot may be missing as in think they are trying to get everyone to get tour caddie. its the same developer IIRC.

For my own course I can enter the stats up to a week after I've played (as long as I didnt play again in between...then it can get confusing!)

For strange courses I just enter then that day or the next day.

    handicap 8.4
    rounds played: 42
    fairways hit: 45.9%
    greens in regulation: 35.9%
    recovery performance: 20.7%
    putting averages: 1.9 (1.9 All, 2.0 GIR)
    Par 3 3.6
    Par 4 4.8
    Par 5 5.6

Par 5's are killing me for some reason.

on a few holes Im not necessarily aiming for the fairway off the tee (or perhaps aiming for left/right side) so a miss isnt an issue when going for the green...I often debate whether or not I should count them as FIR or not actually...

I would 100% not count them as FIR personally.
Your lie/position at the end of the day is the biggest factor to your GIR stats.

Probably down to poor course management :);)

Are they high indices? Or is it just that you feel Par 5's offer more opportunities?

I use Golflogix and I find it great to be honest. Golfshot didn't have my local course mapped when I went looking.

Haven't posted enough rounds yet to put up meaningful stats.

This is my thinking on it. I'm not a member of anywhere so usually play different courses. I'm also new to the game and taking over 100 sits a round. There'd be times when I wouldn't have a clue 10 holes later what I had done on a blowout hole earlier. Will probably just mark down on the scorecard to be used later.

    HC 6

    Rounds 24
    Fairways Hit 58.9%
    GIR 47.9%
    Scrambling 25.8%
Putting: 1.86 (per hole) 2.01 per GIR

    Par 3's -3.6
    Par 4's -4.6
    Par 5's -5.2

I'm shocked to see how bad my putting is, but it's great to actually be able to see the numbers.
I'm not sure why but I think Golfshot only counts "up and downs" when they are for par or better, on a round awhile back I had a number of up and downs for bogey or worse and they weren't included in the stats.
On the Fairways hit Greebo, personally I count them as a hit if I intended to play there.

HC 11(10.9) based on 32 cards all in 2013, all in Singles Comps, all in Home Club

    Fir 65.4%
    Gir 32.8%
    Scrambling 17.3%
    Sand Saves 10.1%
Putting 1.87 per hole, 2.06 per GIR

    Scoring
    Eagles 0%
    Birdies 5%
    Pars 34%
    Bogies 43%
    2 bogies+ 19%

Really need to improve my GIR and putts per GIR to get my handicap down, its an interesting post to look at after 6months, might be worth while looking again in another 6 months to see if there is any improvement

    Handicap 14

    Fairways- 56.3%
    GIR. 22.6%
    Up+down 19.5%
    Sand. 0% :(
Putts. 1.84per hole 2.0 per GIR

    Eagles - 0
    Birdies - 3%
    Pars. - 32%
    Bogies - 42%
    Worse - 23%

    Par 3 - 4.0
    Par 4 - 5.0
    Par 5 - 5.6

Need to improve my GIR and sand saves, although I don't go in to bunkers all that much but still an improvement needed. Feel I need to improve my par 5 performance specially on my home course as I don't have a shot on any of them.

dunno what it is, we only have 2 and they both have ob off the tee, actually I think being more aggressive would help me...
also one of the greens is hard for me to read...a few three putts there

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 848 ✭✭✭Kace

Some very tidy Driving and GIR stats there lads !! I'm jealous.

I wouldn't mind but some of the holes where I play could double as runways for a 747 :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,510 ✭✭✭✭PARlance

Might as well stick up mine even though I've only input 3 rounds.
Will refresh once I've gotten a bigger sample (and the way things are going...a bigger HC).

    HC: 17.4

FIR 45.7% (Nearly all my misses are to the right.... aggressive fade!!!)
    GIR 20%
    U&D 11.1%

    Putts 2.0 (Per GIR 2.1)

    Par 3 - 4.3 ()
    Par 4 - 5.3 ()
    Par 5 - 6.3 ()

Having the stats available to look at is an advantage in that it focuses the mind on problem areas... having to post them on here only adds to that!

For myself, off the tee and putting seems to be ok, it's the stuff in between that seems to case the trouble.

I've looked at mine and other peoples scores per hole and assumed that there are 4 Par 3's, 10 Par 4's and 4 Par 5's on a typical course, Par 72.
It's interesting to look at peoples handicaps and their average score above Par. (a recent thread on what a typical 18 hc'er would shoot on average was in mind)

Anyway, from the stats so far, it seems that the ratio between HC and average round is approx 1.4 times the handicap.

    6 HC'er averaging 9 over (1.5)
    8 HC'er avaraging 13 over (1.62)
    11 HC'er averaging 15 over (1.36)
    17 HC'er averaging 23 over (1.35)

Extp.... you're a bit of an exception at HC 14 averaging 16 over (1.14), bandit, must only input your good rounds... you must be a fairly steady golfer ? ;)

Ha, I don't think I'm a bandit, I enter comps every week and hand in my cards, all away scores are on golfnet.

I'm steady enough, my stats are only 14 rounds tho. But I tend to grind out a good round, I just aim to go around to my handicap and If I shoot under then I'm delighted. If I could get rid of the 3/4 unforced errors then my handicap would probably be closer to 12.

only stats i keep are FIR and Putts so no point in putting mine up here.

What i do sometimes (during a casual round) is under my score i keep a record of drive (left / centre / right), number of iron shots and putts. Then after if i think of it i'll put them into the golfshot app.

When i get back playing regularly again I am going to wipe off all my current scores on it and start keeping proper records.

Depends. If I am playing much the same as I would in a comp then yes i.e. focused on scoring my best
If I am just messing about then no i.e. working on golf swing rather than golf score
But I disagree they are meaningless if you are trying 100% to score your best
