Boardgaming is making a huge comeback worldwide ,with more boardgames been produced than ever before. When I was a kid Risk ,monoploly and Cluedo where the games we played. Nowdays most of the new generation of boardgamers would laugh at these games. Few gamers would buy their kids a game from smiths toys, because of the huge variety of better games now available.
Soldiers, policemen, pastors, collage lecturers, videogame designers are all now involved online in promoting/reviewing boardgaming.
Germany and U.S. seem to be the biggest players. Nearly 50000 attended Dragoncon in the U.S. in 2012.

So do you play boardgames?. Whats your favourite boardgame?.

Have you played any of theNew Generation games in the poll?.

play scrabble occasionally and chess once in a blue moon. Stems from years ago when I had a housemate and they liked to play boardgames, lots of laughs if you're playing with the right person. We used to rotate between board games and tetris when we had f all else to do :o

Are there any board games where you can play with yourself?

Don't worry folks the less number of boardgames you knew from that list the more normal you are.

I believe the accepted terminology is "I have wood for sheep. WOOD FOR SHEEP!"

I've played a fair few of the games mentioned here. Dixit was mentioned and that's a blast. It's all about finding the right people to play with.

A bag of grass and a game of Settlers or Risk or a few rounds of Carcasonne, hard to beat!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,089 ✭✭✭✭LizT

I love Monopoly. My family won't play it with me because I used to cheat and steal from the bank all the time, losers

Definitely depends on the crowd you play with, you want someone who takes it serious enough but will have a bit of craic at the same time.

    Agricola
Settlers of Catan and Risk. Risk in particular, between my circle of friends we actually own more copies of the game than there are people in aforementioned circle. Went to visit a friend in England recently, another friend traveled up to London as well, we ended up buying a copy of Risk for 30 pounds whilst hungover just to play a single game. All three of us own copies back home.

If it's taking more than ninety minutes, then you're doing it wrong. It's from ages back, but I still see people play it totally wrong, and turn it into a 5 hour game: See here

Also, ticket to ride is class.

Still play Boggle and Scrabble a good bit.

    Monopoly not so much anymore.

Cranium is a holiday and Christmas favourite too, along with Scattergories.

    Great craic altogether.

I remember getting the Crystal Maze board game for my birthday, greatest day of my life.
It even had a mini glass dome that you had to shake the gold and silver pieces out of.
