View the PDF here. The manifesto page to launch it here

Looks very polished. Quite a lot in it, will need a couple of reads.

All I've heard of it so far is that he's going to sue less people. A good start! :pac:

Wealthy Russian's already back European cycling , Katusha and many other teams. and that's with PMQ in charge.
It's ok to be concerned about it but don't get fooled that it's a problem unique to Brian Cookson.
It's been brought up to instill doubt into peoples minds and deflect from the real issues...

I believe the oligarch McQ accused him of speaking to is the head of Russian cycling.....

I like the sound of a lot of his promises, but part of me wonders how genuine they are. Like "Open an independent investigation into allegations that the UCI colluded to cover up past doping offences" - where have we heard that before?

edit: Started reading this interview, and liking him a bit more, but haven't finished it yet.: http://www.velonation.com/News/ID/14834/Brian-Cookson-Interview-UCI-Presidential-candidate-speaks-at-length-on-range-of-topics.aspx

I've no doubt he'll do it as long as he's not connected to any wrongdoing. It's politics. Like the current government he'll be able to blame the previous administration for anything that's wrong in the UCI for about two years (if he's that way inclined).

As Vaughters said on twitter he was the only one of the Management Committee to contact USADA post the report

    Thats a good start!

Does this quell your fears ?!

British candidate for UCI presidency failed to convince reporters in Paris

Asked by Cyclingnews about his opinion over the "closed league," or so called "Champions League" of cycling, for which businessman Zdenek Bakala signed a memorandum of understanding with the UCI, Cookson answered: "There are things we can do for Elite pro road cycling. I don't rule anything out. I don't rule anything in. We can find some solutions but we don't have immediate answers."

However Cyclingnews understands from different sources that Cookson has been encouraged to put his hand up as a candidate by national federations from Belgium, France and Italy in order to strongly fight against the project of a "closed league", something that Cookson denied

That article is painful to read.

"Cookson was adamant that he's "not manipulated by anyone" but admitted to have had "short conversations" with Jaimie Fuller and Antoine Vayer from the activist group Change Cycling Now. "I think it's important they contribute to future analysis," he added. Therefore, the 62 year-old is building his campaign on both sides of the story: the success of British Cycling and the suspicions voiced by Vayer over the performances of Team Sky. "No team is above scrutiny," he said when confronted to his contradiction."

So somehow talking to CCN is a problem because Sky are a British team and the journalist (French) thinks there are suspicions of Sky, but did not provide any detail?

Surely, a the UCI should at least talk to an organisation against doping?

I thought the article was pretty poor. I can't say that I come to the same conclusions as he did when reading the same questions and answers.

Anybody that thinks that anyone sitting on the UCI Management Committee is immune from all it's failings is living in a fantasy. You can either sit on the outside a btich and moan or you can work from the inside to try and create a different narrative. He has his work cut out trying to convince everyone inside that the status quo is so broken that it needs drastic change but at least he's making an attempt whilst the rest sit on their hands and say nothing.

    McQuaid responds: http://www.velonation.com/News/ID/14840/Pat-McQuaid-blasts-Brian-Cooksons-half-baked-election-Manifesto.aspx

He makes a couple of good points, but it's such a knee-jerk statement. Also, the closing paragraph shows Pat can't resist a sly 'screw the Brits' dig:
Finally, the irony of Brian’s choice of historic venue to launch his manifesto suggests he doesn’t actually know the UCI’s history. The UCI was indeed launched in Paris by cycling federations from France, Italy, Belgium, Switzerland and the USA. It was launched specifically to replace the then International Cycling Association which these countries felt was too dominated by Great Britain, hence the choice of Paris. Britain was even specifically excluded from joining the newly launched UCI for a number of years.
