What's good for dampening out cabin buzzes and vibrations?

I need to remove a few pieces of trim that are buzzing, planning on putting something behind them to stop the vibration, so far cardboard has worked, but is there anything better? I'm sure some or our more OCD boardsies have some suggestions.

For pieces of trim on the dash I've used folded pieces of paper or duct tape stuck in between. If you push a bit they are invisible.

Silicone oil is good for squeaking trim. It won't damage plastic or rubber.

Making sure all screws & nuts are well tightened, is always a good start.

The pop out cup holders are the worst, the one in my Avensis is silent when in the out position, even without a cup in it, but when you push it in, it sound like there's a troupe of midgets doing the riverdance behind the dash.

There's not another rattle or noise in the car anywhere so its annoying as hell listening to it. It's tricky to silence it without interfering with its ability to function and properly fold in and out of its cubbyhole.

Would it be possible to get some soft rubber and glue it to the rear of the cup holder so that when the mechanism folds up it pushes against the rubber and stops the rattling.

Even better would be fabricate a rubber ring that stiicks to the edge and stops the rattling. This stuff is amazing http://sugru.com/about
