German Shepard puppy training

    Looking for some advice please

I'm thinking of joining a dog training club. I've a 5 month old German Shepard and would like to train him up. Looking for basic obedience training at first, but would be interested in trying for more advanced training. Schutzhund training/trials for example.
I'm not looking for somewhere that takes your dog away and returns it 6 weeks later fully trained !!!
Thinking of joining a club and making a hobby of it. I've looked around on the Internet but I'm wondering if there are any members of clubs out there with any advice or views.

    Thanks in advance

    H

PS should have mentioned, I'm living in the Louth area

Dog Training Ireland in Blanchardstown, you go once a week and get plenty of homework. I found it good.

How far would you travel op? John Ward up in Swords is a great German Shepherd man, and a super trainer too. He runs Dublin Dog Training up in Estuary Kennels, so depending what part of Louth you're in, he might be a quick spin up the motorway.
Agility is his speciality, but I'd imagine he has schutzhund contacts for you to develop on to.
Be really careful in Louth, there is an establishment there that trains all sorts of "tough guy" stuff, but their methods would make your toes curl.
There's also Joanne Byrne who runs classes in Louth Village, I think her company is called Problem Paws, for googling purposes! She does obedience and I think, a bit of agility, and perhaps worth a call to see if she can recommend further progression to schutzhund?

Thanks for the info on the swords club. It's not a million miles away. And thanks for the heads up on the others. Good to know.
