Old VW Polo indicator flashing at twice the normal speed

I'm driving a 96 VW Polo and as of two days ago, the right indicator is flashing at twice the speed it normally does. The left indicator is fine and nothing has actually been changed on the car recently.

Is there any way for me to correct this myself?

Check to see if one of the bulbs is gone

Hazard switch is gone I'd say.

It can be because a bulb is gone on the same side as the quick indicator (right side) but it can be front or back. Check both indicators on the right side - front and back. My guess is one is going to be burnt out.

Had this a few weeks back on my car, it was the bulb that was gone.
Go out and see if its working or not, cheap fix if its blown.

Good call by everyone, I just checked and the front right bulb is gone. I'll pop down and replace that later today. I probably should have checked this first! :o

I was just a bit surprised that your first instinct wasn't to get out and have a look at the lights, to see if they were actually flashing. You'd have answered your own post then.

Hence the blonde reference. Meant as a jibe, of course..:) No offence..!

Not everyone is as clued up about cars. And I'll admit I am one of them.

Many would think if the indicator sound was going at double speed, then the indicator itself would be flashing at double speed. Simple mistake to make.

When I first discovered this problem many moons ago, I didn't know that it could have been a bulb out, but I soon learned.
