Abroad for a while, not sure what to do

I've just finished first year college and I wanted to get away from Ireland as I was sick of being at home and the weather.

I originally wanted to go away with friends maybe but my friends aren't the most motivated to go and do new and exciting things, so I asked my Father if I could stay with him for a month and a bit in his apartment in the south of France (Nice).

I've been here a week now and to be quite honest I've been quite bored which has made me feel quite down and lonely, I've thought of maybe getting a job but after asking around it's quite hard to get something for such a short period of time, also I only have experience working in supermarkets and not bars (I'm 19).

I have a couple of friends here but they are all working all day most days if not every ( they live here) so I don't want to be pestering them asking them every day if they are free.

I could go to the beach everyday and read but it's quite boring on your own.
I've been having thoughts of maybe just getting a train and going off to different places, towns across France and just exploring for a few days but after seeing the train ticket prices I was a bit discouraged as I'm slightly limited in funds. Could still be a possibility I haven't ruled it out. I also have never traveled alone but maybe this would be good for me.

I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions? anything at all? Thanks

Lucky you, Nice is lovely. You could advertise conversational English lessons? Charge a reasonable hourly fee and put up an ad in the local Tabac. Or dog walking? The French love their doggies so you could advertise a service like that? Another alternative is to do an intensive 4-week French language course, would be a great opportunity to learn the language/hone existing skills while there...

Thanks! those are good suggestions, there is a tabac about 15 minute walk from here so I will ask if I can put an ad up in there :)

Buses can be a heap cheaper than trains :)

If you are at all into hiking or walking that could be an option too, one [among many] thing continental Europe is great for is long distance, well marked hiking trails, often with accommodation along them. One of the ways you can walk the Camino (which - officially is a pilgrimage but it's full of people in their early 20s doing it for the challenge & adventure and not with any religious/pilgrim-y leanings) starts in Le Puy-en-Velay in France.

Maybe you could try to meet some people through something like couchsurfing?
    https://www.couchsurfing.org/n/places/nice-provence-alpes-cote-d-azur-france
It looks like they have a French/English language exchange on Wednesday.
Do you speak French? Well even if you don't, you know that the people that go will want to speak English!
