Fireplace Hearth Colours - Solid Fuel

    Hi all,

We’re looking to install an insert stove (multi-fuel) and new fireplace and went to 4 different showrooms at the weekend. We’re looking at cream/ ivory fireplace surround but some of the showrooms tell us the hearth must be black because white will burn/ scorch if a hot coal were to fall out of the fire (makes sense!). We could always buy a white fireplace with a black hearth, but the one we’re looking at looks a lot better with the light coloured hearth.

However others tell us there’s no problem using a cream hearth, as the marble wont mark. They reckon it too tough to mark and have never seen it mark in the past – the only drawback they do highlight is that it’s more difficult to keep clean (ashes & dust).

Does anyone have experience installing a light coloured hearth and using it with solid fuel – the experts in the shops are all saying different things so I’d like to get feedback from a few people who’ve installed white with solid fuel….

    Thanks

Why should white marble burn any more or less than black marble. there both the same material. I'd say it's just sales talk as black is the most popular which they always have in stock.
I put a beige fire heart in 20 years ago and it's still there with no problems.
