I was listening to the radio there this morning and a job came up and said '' Driving jobs available, Must have full clean license''

I only have 2 points on my license would that seriously affect me getting that job? I mean no one cares about 2 points lol

    Seriously??? Of course they care.

A lot of insurance companies care so if you're going on company insurance of course that will matter as it might cost more to get you insured than someone else. And what the points were for would of course matter - if it was for speeding its not exactly in your favour now is it?

This comment would make me think you aren't suitable for a driving job...

Clean licence generally refers to it being clear of any endorsements.

Points are usually not associated with the cleanliness of a licence.

And you're quite right, Insurers rarely care about two points.

My partner has applied for a number of driving jobs recently, and at interviews they double-checked if he had points on his licence. But he would have been going on company insurance to work with them.

If you have two points, it means at some point in the past three years, you broke the law in relation to driving, and got caught. Which a lot of employers would consider as a completely unnecessary risk.

That is not entirely correct. An insurer may overlook 2 points but that will depend on your length of time driving, your previous claim record, what the points were for etc. It is all about risk mitigation and some insurers will quote ridiculously high premiums for young male drivers with points on their licence.

I am sure some companies will overlook 2 points but not all will. And if they are going to overlook your points it will only be if you are very impressive in other areas of selection. If not, of course they are going to chose the lower risk applicant who has never been caught breaking traffic laws.

I am fully aware of this........... hence my use of the term rarely

I would assume it means endorsements and didn't refer to points. if it comes up at the interview I would just say exactly that, no endorsements I have two points for 55 in a 50 or whatever you have.

People in transport companies deal with their drivers getting points on licences and being in accidents etc the whole time it is no big deal in my opinion. An agency recruiter on the other hand won't have a clue.

Calm down.. It's 2 penalty points not a murder. I suppose you have no points on your license then?

Thanks for the advice anyway lads, I really would be shocked if I was turned down because of 2 points but we shall see what happens :D:D

I have no points on my license.

My advice to you is to learn from your past mistakes (2 points) and clean up your driving. Explain in the interview the points were a wake up call and you are a much safer driver now. Good luck.
