Why do a lot of men seem to hate it on girls?! Surely it's better than the pale, pasty look?

This is one of these questions that I want to answer in detail but know I'll be here all day if I do :o

tl;dr It looks sh*te for the most part and smells just as bad.

The problem is not with the product itself, more how it's applied. ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,059 ✭✭✭crazyderk

This fairly much sums it up I think!

The ugliest thing about a girl is having such low self esteem that theyre ashamed of their skin colour. In Asia they whiten their skin to do similar. It just reeks of shallowness and poor confidence. I've found girls with all types of complexions attractive as long as it's theirs.

When it gives a girl a colour that she would get if she had a tan, it looks fine. When women with an Irish complexion try to dye themselves Spanish it looks stupid.

It's a simple rule really - if the average guy can easily spot that you've put on fake tan, you're wearing too much.

    Because it's FAKE

Little bit if ok long as its not smeared on, but when you look like you bathe in Nutella it looks ridiculous. nothing wrong with being pale either, really suits some people.

A lot of what you see on some women is completely fake on nights out, eyelashes, nails, bigger hair, made up to the nines, magic figure hugging underwear etc.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,801 ✭✭✭Ruudi_Mentari

I think ih looks sexy sometimes. a lot of guys, have a penchant for that artificial dolled up look once you come to term with how it's not rlly her if indeed it is a her at all

and besides you can't, beat the taste of the stuff although I would not typically go for that atypical type of tart.

As a man I'm not a fan of fake tan on women for the self same reason.
At it's worst they look like the guy from the 'you've been tangoed ads' and at best it'll be streaky, blotchy or uneven and sometimes all three and attracts your attention for all the wrong reasons.

    Yup.

Women dye their hair a different colour.
They wear heels to make themselves taller.
Add hair extensions to make it longer.
Wear fake tan change to colour.
Wear push up bra to make tits look bigger and perkier.
Add fake eye lashes to make them look longer.
Wear corsets to make them look skinnier.
Wear fat pants to make there ass look smaller.

I have yet to go out, meet a girl, take her home and wake up with the same woman! Then they have the cheek to claim men are liars:eek:

Can't speak for any males, personally, but I generally prefer paler skin. It looks more natural and healthy.

I would agree with you that it looks more natural but I don't think the average pair of Irish legs look healthy in a skirt without either tights or some tan! :P

Not something I lose sleep over.

Can look and smell not the best if it's overdone but most cosmetic rituals are a little strange if you want to get reductive about it.

Plus far more men, especially supposed alternative types, want to f+ck dolly bird types them will admit it on here.

I love fake tan, it's just my preference though.

A "new" spray on tan or fake tan is not too bad (in moderation) It's when it's a couple of days old, streaky and patchy that it looks bad. Nothing worse when you look at a girls hands and you see thick fake tan between the fingers.

There seems to be very few women that know how to apply it properly as their hands look like they've been handling something they really shouldn't have. Plenty can barely get the correct colour makeup for their face never mind their entire body and it smells fúcking terrible too.

The same rule applies to Fake Tan that applies to all make-up...

If you can tell right away that they are wearing it , then they are wearing too much.....

So, there are lots of women out there that use Fake tan but you'd never know, as it's used sparingly and in a shade that's complimentary to existing skin-tone/hair colour etc..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 260 ✭✭Franticfrank

It's disgusting, it really is. Detracts from natural beauty in a major way. A friend went out to a club with a girl overdone with fake tan - he got home and had a face on his black shirt - it really was like the Turin Shroud.

its rediculous looking when you see women who've applied fake tan, and theres a fairly obvious line along there jawline of where they have stopped applying it..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,357 ✭✭✭✭leahyl

It's all about how it's applied, some of us look like oompa loompas, some of us looked like bronzed goddesses!:D I'm the latter of course :pac:

Seriously though, there is nothing wrong with wanting to look your best and, in my opinion, a bit of fake tan, applied correctly, does wonders. I don't like my arms when they are pale and pasty but as soon as I have a bit of tan on I think they look better :D

And regarding the line on the jawline - blend ladies, blend!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,062 ✭✭✭Uriel.

from a distance fake tan looks fine. I prefer a more tanned complexion than the whitey white that is Irish people.

But have dated and had ONSs with women who almost shower in the fake tan, the smell up close is horrible. you lose the natural scent of a woman (IMO) if the body is doused in this stuff. But most of all, the next morning I hate when I am covered in the stuff having slept with them. It's horrible.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,329 ✭✭✭✭Cienciano

Like makeup, fake tan is great if done right. You wouldn't notice fake tan if it was done right. The problem is, you notice the orange umpah loompas and think all fake tan is like that.

LOL, you think people wear fake tan because they're "ashamed" of their skin colour!

Well, we're talking about colours here, not shape, are we? ;)

I'd still disagree, though. The only tights I find good-looking are black, I find the brownish ones to be... well, slightly ridiculous at best, sorry.

If it looked in anyway realistic or good id have no problem with it, but you can instantly tell whether its fake or not and just looks like the painted themselves orange

And why do woman put make up?

Always makes me laugh when men say they prefer women who don't wear fake tan or loads of make up, and yet when asked who they are most attracted to you'll find the majority of the very women they choose are without doubt wearing fake tan and a decent amount of make up. You can be doing the "natural" look and still be wearing primer, foundation, concealer, eye shadow, mascara, highlighter, powder, blusher, lip gloss, eyebrow liner/shader, tan and bronzer. Nothing "natural" about it but that doesn't mean it's a bad thing if it makes someone feel and look good.

I know it's become a bit of a cliche (especially around here) but it is genuinely all about how you apply it- both make up and fake tan. You can wear a small amount applied well and it can really look good. There are people who go OTT but that doesn't mean it's all bad.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 960 ✭✭✭cletus van damme

apart from the application disasters or extreme slobberings of it - I have to say I'm a fan of a well dressed lady with fake tan.

nothing wrong with pale skin - but a tan (fake or not) it quite attractive.

fake tan on your sheets? get the fcuk - you just got laid ffs.

actually anybody who complains about tan on their sheets after a ride deserves a good kick in the balls.

The same reason. I'll easily admit that about myself. I feel like I look better with make up on - having covered my face.

Wrong. Another huge problem I have with it is most people have no idea how much to use. Looking like an Oompa Loompa isn't that great.

Like in any situation, you will get hypocrites. Most men love make up and nice light tan skin tone. Problem is majority of woman in Ireland have no sense on the amount of make up and tan is enough ( most young ones) . To make it worse, girls don't know how properly apply products too.
I have seen countless times when a girl puts fake tan incorrectly and she ends up in Brown stains instead of fully covered in light tan. I am not even talking about putting way too much of it in the first place.
Same issue with make up. I bet that everyone of us had seen girls with "make up masks". You can clearly see that she just put make up directly on the front of her face and the rest of the head is natural colour. So you get a mask effect, which looks dumb. Girls just can't blend in make up to make it look natural.
I love to see beautiful woman. If they need make up or don't need make up its up to them. No matter how they achieve it, the most important things is final outcome.

Once upon a time being pale was considered to be true beauty. Somewhere along the line this changed and now it's practically the opposite.

I don't wear it myself but wouldn't judge others for wearing it as long as they can put it on properly.

Amen to that! I can't stress enough how important it is to blend your makeup with your tan so that your neck and shoulders are the same colour as your face - nothing worse than a bronzed face and then white pasty neck and shoulders....

You hear men go on about how much they hate fake tan and women with lots make up yet these are the very kinds of women who get the most attention. At least be honest about it! :)

Like anything, I think it can look great if applied properly. Not something I wear myself because I live in a country where I can get a real tan (:P).

Any number of reasons. Because it's more fashionable to look like you have a tan? The people who do it like the look?
Are women who wear make-up ashamed of their looks? What about women who dye their hair? Women who sunbath?
I had a shave this morning, I'm obviously ashamed of my facial hair!

I quite like pale looking girls anyway, even compared to naturally tanned women. SO I definitely prefer pale to fake tanned..

    Done incorrectly;

And it can be spotted easily.

That reminds me of this song

    After the ball was over
Nellie took out her glass eye
Put her false teeth in water
Corked up her bottle of dye
Put her false leg in the corner
Hung up her wig on the door
And all that is left goes to bye byes
    After the ball.....

Well maybe ashamed was a bad word but they're clearly uncomfortable enough about it to have to cover it up.

Nobody is wearing tan because they are ashamed of anything, it's because a real tan ironically makes you look healthier; younger, fresher, toned, white teeth.

As for fake tan, it's all in the application. I've been wearing fake tan for 15 years and not one boyfriend has ever copped it. In fact my 'lovely sallow skin' (hahaha) gets loads of compliments along with comments like "tg you don't wear that fake stuff, I can't stand it".

Apart from streaking, smells etc loads of girls are fake tanning up to a colour that no human being has ever tanned to. Absolutely disgusting. Sometimes I want to walk around with a Brillo pad and go to work on some of the horror shows I'm confronted with every day.
