Skeptical of Dental recommendation

First off, I'm not someone who takes incredible care of their teeth but I don't neglect them, but I was fairly taken aback when I received a treatment plan from my Dentist.

I'm 19 years old and I currently have around 6-8 fillings as far as I can remember, I'll have a rummage around for more complete documentation if someone would like to take a look themselves (feel free to PM me regarding this as I understand you cannot recommend anywhere within the thread)

However, I have not had these fillings more than 2 years, and as I understand fillings should last 4-6. I got them before/during having orthodontic work done.
My orthodontic treatment is now finished, and my dentist has given me a treatment plan totalling €1000, within which he wants to remove 6 of my fillings, and put them back in. He is the one that put these fillings in within the last two years. I don't have problems that I'm aware of with the teeth that have been filled, and as a result am a little worried and wanting a second opinion. I live in Dublin.

Also I understand that replies cannot be taken as medical advice, and I intend to see a dental professional, it's simply that I'm not that confident in my dentist anymore.

You need to ask why these fillings need to be replaced.

If it because they were put in badly to begin with... You can talk discount.....

If it because the dentist just wants a new type of filling material then you can question the need for treatment....

If, as is often the case, you have developed new secondary decay around the fillings then this is on you.... One of the most likely places to get decay is around the margin of a filling. You can't expect to get the full life out of a restoration if you get new decay. It's like complaining that you didn't get 20000 miles out of a set of tyres when you spin the wheels everyday....

If they are breaking due to grinding, again this is you, unless the grinding was obvious and missed by your dentist... Get them replaced and get a gum shield... Or maybe crowns would be better....

I was told there is decay under the filling but that the rest of the tooth seemed fine.
