Three years ago tomorrow I took the plunge and had laser eye surgery. I had been wearing contact lenses for almost 20 years and I was fed up of the inconvenience. I was -7.5 in both eyes when I went for surgery.
I had the procedure done in Wellington Road with O*tical E*press at 2.30 and was finished about 20 minutes later.

Both of my eyes were done on the same day and I opted for the Intralase procedure. I had more eye tests when I got to the clinic. I was bouncing around with excitement on the day.

The procedure was only mildly uncomfortable. DH waited outside and there was a nurse with the surgeon who chatted to me while the surgeon got down to business. I had to look at a "dot" and it was done. Then repeated. When they finished they put "bandage" lenses into my eyes, which they removed the next day.

We stayed in a local hotel. When I got there, I had to wear goggles and my eyes were streaming heavily. I managed to sleep for a couple of hours and went downstairs for a bite to eat arount 7.30. We found a dark corner, but I was starting to read signs around the bar easily enough.

Got up next morning and got the bandage lenses out, and had an eyetest. I had to wear the goggles for a week at night.
I had no pain, no "halos" when driving at night and no floaters.

I had an eyetest a month later, and also a year later.

Best thing is that I went for an eye test at an independant opticians last week and I had in no way regressed. She also told me that the scar has healed very well in both eyes.

I would say to anyone, especially if nervous, don't look at youtube. If any of you want to ask anything or need reassurance, feel free to ask.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I have the surgery booked for the start of next month so it's quite reassuring to hear success stories. Did you have any problems with dry eyes after the procedure?

Hi there. I have only had the dry eye issue once. It was during our last trip to Florida, my eyes were a bit dry in the mornings when I woke. I can only presume it was the heat there, but I had brought drops with me in case I would be affected on the flight (I wasn't), and they sorted me out immediately. It hasn't happened since.

Best of luck with your surgery, if you get the wobbles, you know where I am :)
