Hi guys I've recently started working out in the gym. I've being doing weights and some cardio, I'm 5ft 8in and weight 12 stone 7lbs so my guess is I prob bout a stone and half over weight. I'm looking into taking a protein supplement and was just wondering what is the best one on the market? And really do I need to take a protein supplement considering I am slightly over weight? Would I just put on extra weight by taking protein which is some thing I don't want. I do want to bulk up a bit but on the other hand I'm trying to loss the gut aswell

    Any advice?

    Thanks

If you're trying to lose weight you need to watch your calories and eat healthy. If you're getting a protein shake get one that doesn't have too many carbs in it. Drink plenty of water.

Well no I want to bulk up a bit, turn that bit of excess fat into muscle. So I was just wondering could I get a recommendation for a good quality whey protein that's not over priced because I hear maximuscle isn't great and over priced.

    Thanks

Can I ask why you want to take a protein supplement? What do you think taking a protein supplement is going to do for you?

For Muscle growth and recovery, isn't protein the building blocks to building muscle.

You mention that you want to Bulk up but not put on any extra weight. Bulking up means putting on extra weight. If you are looking to build lean defined muscle and reducing body fat first off id recommend speaking with an experienced trainer in your gym, get a tailor made programme done up and most importantly follow a diet plan. You mention you are a bit overweight, so doing weights, sticking to your current eating habits and taking a protein supplement will prob not get you what you want.

Protein plays a vital role in building muscle however the average adult requires 0.8 grams of protein per kg body weight the average male athlete 1.2 to 2.0. So youre roughly 79KG average =63 grams protein 79 kg athlete = 94 to 158 grams protein a day. So to break it down 100 gram chicken fillet contains roughly 20 grams protein you should be able to get most of your protein requirements from a healthy well balanced diet.

Your body will not use more protein than it requires. If you are going to use a protein supplement make sure you do your own research too and aim for a protein with a comprehensive set of amino acids.

Just one more question u see lads taking theses protein shakes and trying to bulk up but how to u prevent yourself from getting a belly then, because no matter how many crunches you do you'll prob have a six pack under a layer of fat??

UNS pure protein looks a good buy its low carb

Protein supplements will help build muscle once you are training correctly and in turn, more muscle at work = more calories burned = fat loss. Train hard ,eat right, you'll get where you want to go!
